Title: RYCA build controls quick question
Post by xaman on 07/01/17 at 14:33:26

I have an odd question for those of you who have done a RYCA build -- is it possible to revert the mid controls to original forward controls?  Or was there anything permanent about the installation of the mid controls?

Thanks!

Kinda like a old mans diaper , Depends
Ryca uses rear set controls not mids
What Ryca are you building?
Are you lowering the forks?
Are you using longer shocks?
Are you changing wheel sizes?
As you see it all

Depends

Thanks for the reply  :)

It's a Cs-2, their standard/scrambler kit.    I don't know 100% if that's the same rear sets as the cafe CS-1, but I think so.   18" rear, 19" front.  Forks lowered and longer shocks.

I'm not building it, it's already done.  The RYCA cs-2 kit is installed and functioning fine.  It's a sacrilegious question to some I know, but if I buy the used RYCA bike and as I fear the seat-peg distance is totally uncomfortable, is it easy enough to revert to forward pegs, but maintain the rest of the bike as a CS-2 standard (tank, subframe, seat, etc...).

I can't think of anything that would be irreversible with the controls, but then again, I've never seen the kit or built one.  Thoughts? (Besides the obvious that most people think I'd be crazy to have forward controls on a "standard" bike)  ;D

Here's the link to the kit, it doesn't specify the location of the controls, but does show pics:

Please contact me by PM if you are interested in trading yours for a stock peg setup.

I'm very familiar with the RYCA , putting stock controls back on might be a issue due to what gets cut off the frame in the area where stock controls are bolted and the cable as well. What I am saying is it can be done but most likely they just won't bolt on , may need to make spacers and weld brackets for cable back on. And will need stock bolts that go thru control brackets , frame & engine. I think I still have what I cut off mine. There are several members that have made their own mids instead of using the RYCA setup.
So it

Depends  ;D

And then there's the kick stand to deal with too ! Or not !

Gotcha.  That's what I was wondering, if there was anything cut off the front of the frame affecting the OEM forward controls.  I have an extra full set of OEM stuff, so parts isn't a problem, unless as you said, things were cut.  Well, I guess it's a roll the dice and see kind of thing.  I'm deliberating whether it's worth it.

Thanks for the replies  :)

Most likely there was some cutting done.  The front motor mount bolts also hold on the forward peg mounts.  When the rear sets are used, the tubes the motor mount bolts go in are narrowed by cutting off the part that sticks out from the frame.  If you wanted to put the forward pegs back on you would need to make spacers, and get a set of the original motor mount bolts.

Thanks Dave, that doesn't sound so bad...

Or you could use the Ryca bracket and mount a set of mid-controls on them similar to what I did with my bike.  Or you could probably fashion some sort plate that would allow you to position the rear sets in a similar fashion.

I just purchased a RYCA Scrambler conversion and I'm interested in doing this. Could it be as simple as attaching a bracket to the existing RYCA bracket to mount the existing rearsets forward more?

Pretty much.  The only limiting factors are the linkages.  I ended up using a shift lever with my set up but you should be able to use or modify the rearset linkages.

Perfect, thanks for the insight. I just purchased some CB700 footpeg brackets that I will be repurposing to relocate the rearsets.

I'll report back with the results when I've completed everything.

I've got a related question about the RYCA rearsets - I'm working on fabricating my own brackets, but when I look at the bike, the clearance between the belt and frame where the RYCA bracket mounts is darn near nonexistent. With the RYCA version, does the belt-side bit mount inside or outside the frame, or is there some other voodoo that occurs?

I think near under the swingarm pivot point.  At least thats where I did mine, I think its the same as theirs.

I had been planning making some dirt bike peg setups for those running the scrambler setup, just havent had time to get them completed.

My plates mount on the outside of the frame and I believe the RYCA mount does too.  Look at the second page of the mid control thread to see close up pictures.

Also, I think the RYCA adapter is worth the money considering the amount of time it will save you.

Thanks folks, that's super helpful.  I just got certified on the water jet table at my local Maker's Space, this bracket will be a breeze to make with that and a little welding.  Seeing a clear picture of how the RYCA mount fits was the clincher. For some reason I was having a helluva a time finding a good shot from the belt side.  I'll keep ya posted!

Nice.  Just trace your battery mounts and cut.
