Title: Oh, Look What I Have
Post by Gary_in_NJ on 04/08/17 at 19:20:07

I hate to brag...but I will. I managed to get the first of the Dave/Armen Headlight Bucket Adapter. I love how the larger headlight looks on the bike. Added bonus; the larger size better hides the wires and cables that have always bothered me (see how the speedo cable is at the front of the light in the photo below - now it sits behind the light). The adapter bracket has a nice shape and provides a nice placement of the headlight. Well done gentlemen.

I think these will be available shortly - Get one while you can. I believe Dave is the point of contact.

Gary:

You got the pre-production test model......so you can determine if we got any bugs.  It appears the sample worked the way it was intended.

Armen is going to be away from the shop for a bit - so production will begin after he gets back.

I am anxious to hear how much better the new larger (7") light works.

Dave

Where'd the headlight come from? Direct wiring swap?

That's so cool. What other forum has people modifying tensioners, building head lamps, changing out parts, Kawasaki pulleys, Yamaha petcock,

The headlight is for Harley Davidson.  You can buy good used ones as some of the Harley guys take off good headlights to put on custom ones.  I an looking to see what I can get in quantity on new headlights   so there can be a price break and make it affordable to offer a complete kit.

The stock wiring is used....it is a "plug and play"....except the wiring hole has to be made a bit larger so the Suzuki connectors can fit though the hole.  If I can find a source for the headlight....they will have the larger hole and rubber grommet work already done.

Same thing for the reflector......there are a lot of options out there.  The Candlepower units are good - but I understand the factory burned down and the remaining units are left over stock, and they are selling on eBay for about $40.  You can get LED unit that install in the bucket for $150 and up.  There is a company in India making Hella copies that are affordable...I will see how well those are made. (It is important to get one with a glass lens - some cheaper ones use plastic for the lens).

The adapter will be sold individually - so you can find a new Harley Take Off headlight or a good used one.  If I can find a good light bucket and reflector source - I will put together a complete kit.  I will provide links to where you can buy the light bucket and reflectors if I can't find any discount from buying in bulk.

Dunno.....some might see it as a curse!

Here is what the light will look like on a standard bike without the speedo/tach mounted on the forks.

Most people condemn the brakes first. I'm not at all satisfied with the light. I do ride at night and it is not comforting riding into oncoming traffic on high beam and Nobody Cares. It's just too puky to bother people.
Okay, I've had ONE person flick the lights at me.
I Need a safer headlight. Looking forward to being a customer.

I'm just really really REALLY tired of busting headlight buckets.
Yeah, I ride rough roads at times.  Yeah, it shakes the headlight.  Yeah, it BREAKS.
Put me on the list of someone who would be interested in your adapter.

That looks pretty nice. The ghetto thing I made in my basement is holding up well though so I probably won't be ordering this.

Put me on the list for the adapter !

I'm gonna make another, but instead of projecting up, it will go forward.

Forks and shocks get bottomed out on the roads I'm running. I'm gonna be needing a Real Headlight. The anemic light lets little, avoidable rough places sneak up on me.

Dave put me in the list for one of these bad boys. I'll be putting an auxbeam 7" led headlight in it so I'll just need the bucket and adapter.

It should only be another week or two!

Title: Re: Oh, Look What I Have

Almost there!  They just need to be cleaned up and powder coated to prevent corrosion of the machined aluminum.

Then I need to figure out the best way to ship them.

I should be able to ship out the brackets - or full lighting kits after the Memorial Day weekend!

(The sale price is currently under discussion with the labor force). ;)

I thought raw aluminum oxidized on the surface and sealed itself off.

Well yes.....it loses the shine and turns into a dull grey/fuzzy surface.  It is not anything I want on my motorcycle - but if you want that look......I can ship save you one without any coating!

If it's gonna be UggLee, I'd rather know how much it saves me.

Dave,

Is the one I have uncoated?

I have so much uncoated polished aluminum on my bike that another piece just doesn't matter. Someday I'll have to do something about it. But not now.

Yep....you got the very first one made in a CNC and it was shipped right after machining.  (I knew all your other stuff was bare aluminum - so the adapter was sent the same way so it would match.  My bike is the same, and I don't have clear coat on the engine or triple clamps - as long as you polish a few times a year it holds up well.  Bikes that sit outside, are ridden a lot and seldom polished.....or that live by the ocean really need to have a coating on the aluminum.

How is it holding up?

Great. It's a perfect fit. The headlight has remained in alignment. The 7" headlight is large enough to obscure the bracket, so you'll only have a few minutes to enjoy looking at it.

Polished......Powder Protected.........Pretty!

And just because you bolt a Harley headlight on your bike, it will not develop a new oil leak. ;)

It's a shame that it gets hidden behind a 7" light.

is there an official list to get on Dave ?

I would like to purchase the adapter !

I should have asked,, I just figured I was already on every list there is.

Jog:  Since you sometimes speak in code.....I interpreted this as a request to get on the list - so you were placed on the list.

I just sent you a PM to the link with the new Marketplace listing.

I wish I could make them available cheaper - but when you only do 8 at a time, there really isn't any way to make them efficiently.  If you take the time to find a bargain on a used Harley bucket and reflector, that could help bring the total cost down.

Title: Re: Oh, Look What I Have
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 05/25/17 at 12:14:52

Is there a lamp/ bucket combination that has been tested and proven to be a better light?
The roads are very dark where I ride coming home from fishing.
If I need to get the adapter now and slowly acquire the parts and do the work, I'm able to do that.
I need to go grocery shopping, but I don't think I should be driving yet.. The head is still a balloon, ears are screwy and I'm not exactly looking like my gyroscope is spun up.

The Candlepower 7" can still be had in the $40 range on eBay.  I believe their factory burned down - and all the ones you can find are New Old Stock (nos).  They are the lens/reflector that I choose to buy....they work well.

The older Hella lights can still be found occasionally - look for the E code lens as the light dispersion is best (make sure it is one made for right hand roads, there sometimes is an EU one that sneaks into the US).  The glass is a really nice crystal.....these were the light of choice for a long time.

I bought 2 of the $20 ones that are made in India to try.  They look OK so far, the metal where you plug the bulb in is not formed as nice as the Hella or Candlepower - but they are half the price.

I don't now much about new fluted/prism style....they are on the newer Harleys and available aftermarket - some of the cheaper ones use plastic lenses rather than glass.
