Title: Idle Speed Way Too High Adjustment Help?
Post by alisonsup on 03/21/17 at 09:07:19

So ive been working on my bike lately and i took the carb out to clean it but in the process i think I accidentally adjusted the idle screw on the left hand side of the carburetor. Now when I start my bike it idles super fast within seconds. What is the stock position for that idle screw? And which way does it need to be turned in order for it to slow down the idle?

Unscrew the adjustment. There is no
Screw it in This Far and it's right.
It's just adjust to get it running around a thousand RPM..
I have to adjust the idle when it's cold,

For what it's worth, Suzuki says our bikes should idle around 1100 RPM.

And yes, there is an ap for that (determining rpm).

Just to be safe, make sure that the throttle cable is properly installed/adjusted and if that checks OK, but the idle screw doesn't solve the problem make sure that the carb went back together correctly.

Unless you changed the setting during cleaning, the idle speed shouldn't be very far off from where it needs to be. So a super high idle makes me think something isn't assembled correctly.

Might have a look into the carb throat and see if the slide is lifted up.
Study the throttle cable where it goes on the carb.

You may have an air leak.

The last time I had my carb off the throttle cable got stuck about a half hour into a ride. It caused the idle to rise significantly. Make sure yours is free.

Thanks for all the replies. My throttle cable wasn't pushed in all the way. Its running fine now .
