Title: Prayers for Old rider
Post by springman on 02/08/17 at 11:47:44

Hey there everyone. I rarely log into my facebook account, but I did just a few minutes ago and found that Old rider is having some serious health issues. I just want to ask everybody here to keep him in your prayers.

Old rider, we will be praying for you, for a speedy and full recovery. God bless you my friend.

He posted that he has a tumor near his left carotid artery and auditory nerve. He indicated he has felt pretty bad for the last 3 weeks and as of yesterday was at Fort Walton Beach Medical awaiting an MRI.

A tumor does not necessarily mean cancer, it could be benign.
Let's all PRAY that is the case and that it can be removed quickly and easily.

Old Rider,  I know the Lord has a plan for each of us.   So , I pray ya'll are working together on the same goal and that it turns out like God has it planed with no friction.
Remember , when Paul was reminding the Romans who is REALLY IN CHARGE:
Roman 8:28 And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.

Seek Gods purpose and things will end well !  ;)   (it always does ! )

You are in my prayers, Old_Rider.

We are all of an age where this sort of stuff can strike abruptly.   I feel for Old_Rider as he got sick about the time he was completely and fully retired.   That sucks completely, and I can understand it completely as it happened to me early last year.   I was still working, but that is always subject to change where I work so I feel for him there as well.

I hear about things like this and first my gut clinches, and I feel for them, their families, their friends, then, selfish of me, people like me, who enjoy the posts he shares. Kick its Butt, man, you have no idea how many people you matter to.
And, the scientist in me wonders,
How much time is there a Blue Tooth oor cell phone on the left side? Is that the dominant or exclusive side?
Benign and operable,, waiting to hear it.

A little update and thanks for prayers and well wishes.
The results are in, I have bilateral (yeah both) acoustic schwannoma on my ear canals surrounding the auditory nerve bundles.
The left one is slightly bigger and is causing havoc with my left side of my head. I am numb nose to ear, my tongue will not function properly, I cannot whistle, pucker, or drink without drooling and everything tastes like crap, I can't even wink my left eye at the çuties.
And I don't want to go into the pain levels.
But hey, I am still alive.
They are moving me from the military hospital to the university of Alabama (UAB) in Birmingham tonight.

Made it here safely, a doctor seen me within my first five minutes of arrival. He said they'd have to get my records loaded and they could start treatment. He also asked if I knew why they picked this particular hospital, I said no, he then told me that they have the best team in the south for this type of illness here. Sounds good to me!

I am not very savvy in medical stuff - but does "inoperable" mean they can't/won't do anything?

I know they use chemo/radiation to kill cancer cells...can they do something like that with your issue?

It just means that the university of Alabama Team of surgery won't. The tumors In my skull are rapped around my auditory nerve bundles and squeezing.
The teams in Sacred Heart are highly educated and experienced and up to date on all the newest meds and surgery practices.

God can do miracles; praying for one for you.

Have you thought about the Cancer Treatment Centers of America ?
They have one in Atlanta.

http://www.cancercenter.com/melanoma/types/tab/metastatic-melanoma/

They do some pretty good work.
You might check them out, or perhaps your doc already works with them at times.  They seem to specialize in Stage 3 & 4 cancers.

Praying for you dude !

Good luck old rider.  That's really tough cancer to beat.  Especially stage 4. Statistics will tell you that, but someone has to be in that 10% right?  My families prayers are with you.

I lost a friend at 40 yrs old to melanoma.  He fought hard. When the Cleveland Clinic told him the cancer was spreading, inoperable and wasn't responding to the chemo treatments, he chased round finding alternative treatments.  They just nuked him to near death trying to kill the cancer. The additional chemo treatments had him walking dead. It was rough on him and his family.

In hindsight, his sister and children told me that they wished he would have accepted the prognosis and made the most of his final months.  Since my wife is in the field, I can sit here and say I agree 99.9%.  But what if I'm the one who has it?  Will I want to fight?  I say no now, but I'm not actually faced with it.
