Title: Seat lift mod .

Please tell me what that is and why I should consider it - what is the "improvement" ?

For most people, the stock seat position tends to make them slide forward...
Ever battling a crotch snuggy...
Also, if you're over 5'-2"... and extra 1' in seat height ain't a bad thing... :-?

Mine is raised 2" in the front... I also spacered the tank 1" for looks...

We have a Technical Section, and it has a Table of Contents with links, and a link is provided below:

If you were to use the Table of Contents and find the thread for the seat lift....you would find this:

Yes, I have found the "Easter egg" tech section and there is a lot of great info there.

At the same time, Serowbot answered my question a couple of short sentences.

As I get a little more comfortable here I likely won't bother you so much.

Thanks.

The seat lift was one of the first things I did to mine. The frame is just so danged small.  It still feels tiny. But not quite as cramped and I really hate constantly sliding into the tank.  Makes your nuts go to sleep. It's also quite cold if you ride in the winter.

I wish it were that easy to fix the same problem on the little Ninja.

I've thought about it, but I don't see a solution because if you lift the seat, now it doesn't marry up to the rear of the tank. You can't lift the rear of the tank because it'll then not marry up with the side farings.  Oh well...I'm keeping my mouth shut...I'm just happy the wife let me bring another bike home  8-)

I'm tninking for the Ninja, there'll have to be some modification done to the seat.  Maybe build up the front of it a little so that the front part of the seat is more of a cradle than a slope.  That way you could still meet with the tank, just a little higher up but have an easier sitting position.

Good point. I met a local shop owner yesterday that said he has a few old Ninjas for parts if I ever need anything. Might see if he has a seat that is ravished for cheap and experiment with it.

You are only a month or so away from being the owner of a second seat that is in perfect condition.....so you can experiment with your current seat if you feel the need. ;)

I think you should cut padding out at the rear of the portion for the rider, to reduce the forward slope of the seat.  You might also look at getting a bit softer foam, as the stock foam feels a bit rigid.

I don't think the seat mod is as important on the S40 as it is on the two-piece Savage seat. I did end up building my S40 seat up using rigid foam, a grinder, and a heat gun to give myself more leg room.

I'll probably wait until I have a spare to mess up. We can still ride here in Alabama so I don't want to render the bike seatless if I goof something up.  8-)
