Title: New owner, 2000 Savage
Post by tensleep80 on 09/08/16 at 22:01:09

Hello,

I have liked the Savage for many years and have purchased one today.  I Answered a CL ad, and the owner drove the bike over to my house.  It is a 2000 model, not running, certainly needs work.  I was looking for a project, so now I have it.  It is nearly complete - I only see the primary cover missing on the belt drive, but everything else is present.

So begins the journey.  About 4 years ago, I purchased a 1980 Honda CX 500 and took great pleasure in modifying and repairing that bike.  While newer, this Savage certainly needs more work.  I intent to lean heavily on your expertise as I progress.

About me, mid '50s, industrial electrician, currently employed as a maintenance leadman in a box plant.  I have tools, for sure, and a pretty good place to work, although outside.  Being in Texas, it isn't as bad as some places, especially in the winter months.

I will certainly post pictures soon.

Thanks in advance,

Ten Sleep

Are there Harley's in your past?  (The primary drive on the Savage is on the right side).

If it is just the belt cover, and not the entire left side cover cover that covers the rotor, flywheel and starter drive gears - somebody on this forum will probably have a spare belt cover.

Belt cover! No Harley's, couldn't afford them[ch128077]. Thanks for the information.  It is the small cover that goes over the pulley at the gearbox output shaft.

I am in Wylie, TX.  BTW, how do I modify my signature? I couldn't find that function last night.

Currently my favorite toy - 2013 Fiat Abarth.  I am also posting this picture so I can have an avatar.

So, I rolled the bike off the back of my pickup truck today and rolled it onto a work platform.  Man, this thing needs a lot of help.  Too late for pictures today, but I will get some tomorrow, for sure.

Also, I was wondering what the proper etiquette is for finding out if the previous owner, once removed, is a member here?  The guy I bought the bike from said he belongs to one of the Savage forum.  I have his name and town in Texas on the title.
