Title: seals and stuff Post by oldNslow on 08/15/16 at 06:56:01 I thought this was pretty interesting. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. ;) http://www.cycleworld.com/elastomers-on-motorcycle-were-chosen-for-reason-kevin-cameron-top-dead-center |
Title: Re: seals and stuff Post by Dave on 08/15/16 at 07:05:23 I really like Kevin Cameron....he is a great writer and pretty darn smart. I made a mistake about a year ago.....I put some brake caliper piston seals in my ultrasonic cleaner with a little bit of the Stoddard Solvent from my parts cleaner. The seals swelled up and wouldn't fit in the grooves anymore......a new set of seals was $60. Now.....I only clean brake caliper seals with soap and warm water - lesson learned. ;) |
Title: Re: seals and stuff Post by Ruttly on 08/15/16 at 12:27:13 When seals/orings/gaskets swell up like, due to absorbing something, sometimes if you soak them in brake clean let it sit for a few minutes 5 then put them in the sun til brake clean evaporates they shrink up some ! |

I didn't want to try that with brake parts! The seals were already 14 years old before I screwed them up. |
