Has anyone had any luck installing a small tachometer?

All the ones I have seen on amazon are like 3-4" in diameter and i think that'll look horrible.

Any details appreciated.

The one from RYCA is the right size, $60. Haven't wired mine yet, but looks good. 8-)

A lot of us have the Ryca Tachometer installed.

It is pretty straight forward and there is something in the Technical Document Section.

Hey Todd, I love the way you mounted that thing! I just wish Ryca (or anyone really) would make one that didn't run to 8000 rpms. I don't need a tach to go that high. 6K would be more than sufficient for me.

Yes, I agree .... 8,000 RPM is a little beyond the reach of our thumpers.

But at least on this particular tach the 270 degree dial sweep provides
adequate spacing on the tic marks to provide an accurate RPM reading.

BE happy!most meters/gauges read most accurately in the center.

Not if you mistakenly downshift at 70 MPH!

If you don't want to change things around very much, I really like these Trail Tech surface mount gauges. They mount with double sided tape, they are small, and they hook up easily with just a small wire wrapped around the spark plug wire.

The big downside for me is that the internal battery only lasts 5 years, and it is not replaceable.

They have them for voltmeter and engine temperature as well, and I might put a temperature one on my bike....just cause I like knowing that kind of stuff.

Hi All,
I bought a 2004 Savage over the winter and am now finally able to give it some time.
One of the things I'd like to do is add a tachometer. I read the other posts/threads about the Ryka, but they apparently no longer offer one.

Would this work for the Savage?

Most of these installations are great. My only comment is to mount it high and forward so that you can drop your eyes to the tach without taking your eyes off the road. looking at the speedo is a long way down.

Once you get used to the tach you have a pretty good idea of your speed without lowering your eyes down to the speedo.

This is item #3 on my 'to-do' list (after carb cleaning and tires). I'll post any results and pics in case it helps anyone else interested.
