Title: Yamaha SR400
Post by norm92de on 04/02/16 at 14:50:40

Hi guys,

Anybody ridden a Yamaha SR400? They seem to be a pretty nice bike, simple to maintain etc.

The only thing might be the big "V". Could be a deal breaker. I have never ridden a smooth single except for the S40. Some of them are really brutal. :)

I rode an SR400 before buying my S40 and it was a "butt-buzzer." Handled well, had some zip but kick-start only, narrow seat, & vibration turned me off. My 2 centavos.  :)

Rodger,
Thanks for the reply. My thoughts exactly.

I grew up on the British singles, Gold star, Matchless etc. they all shook your fillings loose. I had this silly idea that somehow Yamaha had tamed the vibration without a balancer.

Mark Hoyer of Cycle World seems to like the Yamaha. :)

Initially, Iliked the more "standard" styling & footpeg position of the SR400, as opposed to the forward controls of the S40. I'd ridden a Harley Fat Boy with fwd controls & didn't  like that AT ALL. But the lighter weight of the S40 vs. Harley made a huge difference.

Also, I didn't want to go back to chain drive...been there, done that. I've had many shaft-drive bikes...thought I'd give belt drive a shot.

This thread was moved to the Cafe', as it is not a Savage related issue.

We have discussed the SR400 a time or two....and it is a nice bike.
