Title: SUZUKI BOULEVARD S50 VS800 risers/yoke
Post by DesertRat on 03/25/16 at 08:05:11

SUZUKI BOULEVARD S50 VS800 risers/yoke, will fit our S40

UPDATE -

Quote:
couple of "adjustments" you need to be aware of:

You will need to adjust your controls, and mirror mounts. The controls are JIS phillips screws (the funky japanese screws) BE CAREFUL, they strip easily if you don't have the JIS screwdrivers.
http://www.amazon.com/Hozan-JIS-4-JIS-Screwdriver-3rd/dp/B00A7WAHTU

The mirror mounts are METRIC allen heads. Easy enough to loosen and adjust the mounts.

Watch the bar centering in the dogbone. You will see the alignment dimple is now a bit wonky and any discoloring from the original mounting should help get it right.

another tip - I used a piece of cardboard box folded in half to give me enough clearance on the controls over the gas cap, right-side.

I think they have a bigger thru bolt.
so you'd have to pull the tube that goes thru the rubbers and leave it out or put a bigger tube in.

Nice find. Do you have the part#.

Better than sockets but knowing Suzuki more expensive. :'(

norm92de,

I purchased as a set (US $23.95), with everything off eBay. All 1992 - 2004 SUZUKI INTRUDER VS800 VS 800 HANDLE BAR RISERS MOUNTS will fit our bikes.

It takes a LOT of parts to get the complete setup. I wound up using just part #'s 10 & 16-19 from the eBay set and my original DOG BONE and TOP clamps.

Here's the OEM microfiche,
http://cdn1.bikebandit-images.com/schematics/schematics/suzuki/suz010/su0307_055.gif

and PRICES from BikeBandit - YOU WILL NEED 2x of every part # here (so it's WAY less expensive if you buy used)

10: STAY HANDLE
1099515      56231-38A50      $39.81      $34.63
16: DAMPER, RUBBER
1099534      56240-38A42      $35.11      $30.55
17: CUSHION,RUBBER,
1099557      56242-39A12      $30.20      $26.27
18: WASHER
1093424      51354-38A40      $6.06      $5.70
19: NUT FINAL GEAR
1024600      09159-10027      $2.41      $2.41

Desertrat,

Thanks for the info.

Looking at the drawing it looks like I would only need 2 of part #10. Any bolts etc. would be available from hardware stores. I did something similar on a Triumph and it worked very well using 3/8" bolts. Am I missing something?

Norm93de,
you MAY need part #'s 16 & 17, if your originals are too small. On ours, there's a metal insert in the rubber, which is removable, but I didn't bother with. Your mileage may vary.

And use some sort of lube (wd40) on the posts and grommets, she doesn't like a DRY insert, and leave the grommets loose, once they're wrenched down you ain't inserting the risers, no way no how.

Desertrat,

It seems that the #10 part is the riser and the bolt combined into one piece?

My S40 risers  just slip off if the nuts are removed. There is a spacer in there but I didn't need to remove it.

yes, the riser and bolt are one unit on the S50 swap.

You will have to remove the spacer in your stock grommets.

the S50 risers MAY fit the stock grommets ...
I didn't use them, so could not confirm either way ...
I do know they will NOT fit with the metal sleeve inserts ...
the inserts take up the space the riser bolts from the S50 would have taken if they hadn't change to the smaller bolts on the S40 risers ...

you can get just part #10 and call it good using all your original parts, minus the sleeve inserts in the stock grommets ... just remove them and install the S50 riser ...

the middle "silver" part is the STOCK sleeve you need to remove ...

Completed this steering mod today as per Desertrat. Has improved things out of sight. I am now sitting in the perfect position and did 120miles without a break or any aches and pains.
