Title: What's that? Post by Violent_Rage on 09/09/15 at 01:36:07 Googmorning everyone (well it's morning here...), today I gave an eye to the belt and I noticed these spots. I'm pretty sure that until yesterday afternoon was all right. What could be? |

Title: Re: What's that? Post by Dave on 09/09/15 at 03:19:15 It appears some kind of liquid has been splashing on the belt while it was ridden, and has dried and left a stain behind. About the only thing that might drip anything over there would be the drain tube from the air box (which should have a cap on the end that is removed to drain it when you do an oil change). The only other possibility would be some residue left from when the bike was last washed and ridden with a wet belt. Scrub it off.....and see if it comes back. |

Get a damp paper towel and rub it on there and see if any color other than black comes off. Give it a sniff, too. Clean and see if it comes back without riding in rain or sprinkler run-off. I notice you run without a belt guard. If something was leaking on the belt while riding, it would have been flung all over the place. Any unusual stuff on other places of the bike? |

Post by stewmills on 09/09/15 at 19:52:47 note the following, which is important. the edge of the streaks are black and shaped like an elongated "u" perpendicular to the belt with the open end to the left. look closer and note that the straight black edges of the streak are positioned precisely over each raised spline in the rear pulley. that is very puzzling and has to tell us something. did the belt or pulley get hot and change the molecular structure of the belt in those spots. I'm spitballing here, but who knows. hmmmmmmmmmmmm. |

Post by Dave on 09/10/15 at 03:11:13 If you run your belt too tight - it will make small cracks in the outer rubber coating, and these tend to make white streaks across the belt along the cracks. However.....this belt certainly looks like something liquid has deposited a stain or coating on the belt. |
