Title: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 08/06/15 at 12:21:34 Is it too early to start this? link to last years... http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1414666722 South Texas does have some might fine twisty roads in the "Hill Country". The classic set is the "Three Twisted Sisters" out around Leakey. Highways 335, 336, 337. Other goodies are 39 out of Hunt, Lime Creek by Lake (Puddle) Travis, McDonald Loop and 1341 by Centerpoint, etc. Hill Country back roads, cattle guards, water crossings, roads without lines, scenery sublime and fine eateries. Being that we arrived and left in the middle of 2 major storms, any change in timing? |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 08/06/15 at 12:34:06 I think we should get some input from Neal on this but I suspect a few weeks earlier or later may be a good idea. Regardless, count me in!!! |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 08/06/15 at 12:44:43 Let me jump in and promote this a bit. The Twisted Sisters and all the surrounding Hill Country have some great roads and if Neal would honor us again in leading the ride I am sure we could ride every day for 2 weeks straight and ride different roads every day. These roads though incredibly fun do not demand as much skill as the Tail of the Dragon. Staying at the campground in Fredricksburg is very inexpensive and is a great central location for all of the hill country. Anybody that takes part in this ride will have a great time. Start thinking about it, ya'll. |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by youzguyz on 08/07/15 at 03:17:10 Yeah, I could let you chase me around the Hill Country again if ya'll want. CRAP. Just pulled up the old maps on Google, and they did it to me AGAIN. They don't look anything like they used to. >:( Not that it matters a whole lot, I just wanted to make sure we hit the roads you missed before due to ... various mitigating factors.. ::) I started using the H/D map web site for mapping. Here is a sample: (a ride I am taking with Mike.. if our schedules ever mesh). http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/share/708320 Open it, click "View or Edit", pray... it might work. Mike?? Mike WHO??? Oh.. Mike, the owner of Alamo Springs Cafe. You might remember that place... From what I remember, we did 39, but not the side trips. We never did McDonald Loop. Certainly did not do Lime Creek (Puddle Travis is Lake Travis again.. for a while). And if we do, Bear Creek is a "must do". You did 1341 without me and thought I got you lost.. "Just keep following the road.. trust me". Of course, the Twisted Sisters have to be done. But I hope to do the Dirty Sister on this go round. Weather permitting. Really need to do Park 4 and around Inks Lake. Yep.. I think I can entertain you! :D Speaking of weather. Who knows what will happen when? You pays your money, you takes your chances!! Be glad you did not make your trip here over Memorial Day weekend. Lots of flooding. MAYBE all the roads that are closed from that will be open again by spring. Yeah.. that bad. Sure would like to meet Lancer. Would be really cool if Dave and Old Feller could make it as well. And all you Texas boys that did not make it last time.. let's do this. And, of course, all that want to come to Texas and do this, are certainly welcome to do so!! :D Like I said before. "OK, it ain't the Dragon.." but it's still some nice riding! For those that are reading this.. I am the "Neal" being mentioned in the previous posts. Your humble native guide... |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 08/07/15 at 09:13:13 And for those of you wondering what Neal looks like, he looks exactly like his avatar. Thanks Neal for graciously accepting to lead us again. Rain or shine I want in. Yes boys and girls, riding the Hill Country really is that much fun, it really is that beautiful, and Neal really does know his way around the Hill Country. Hope it turns out to be a great big shindig. ;D ;D ;D |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 08/13/15 at 12:23:19 I,d like to go again , and invite some more folks too. At least one friend , one or two brothers, and a young new rider, he won't be new by then :) |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 08/18/15 at 20:24:07 Let's do it guys. The adrenaline rush of the Dragon is cool, but the Twisted Sisters and surrounding area led by Neal is just as much fun, maybe even more. For all of you that want some great rides, interesting scenery, fun commraderie (however you spell that), and great food, sign up for the ride. You will have a blast. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 08/18/15 at 21:30:41 If anyone hauling their motorcycle is passing through, or near, Denton, TX on their way to the Ride I would be inclined to join them. I am not comfortable on that long of ride to be myself. Kenny G |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 08/18/15 at 23:28:53 Denton is in North Texas ain't it ? :-? Kenny I feel better about long rides if I have company too. From middle TN. --- South Texas is a long ride , I kinda need a 1/2 way point to camp and quit vibrating for the evening ! ;D Doesn't SpringMan live just a little south of ya ? (Spring Texas) Is that what you were getting at ? |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by youzguyz on 08/19/15 at 04:28:51 Denton is by Dallas. Spring is by Houston. Not "on the way" by any stretch of the imagination. If Lancer is coming down from Oklahoma, he might be passing close to Denton.. or could. According to Google, it is "only" a 5 hour (300 mile) ride from Denton to Kerrville. A bit longer and further if you get creative on the route. I would definitely do Hwy 16 instead of 281. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 08/19/15 at 06:25:30 Youzguyz, I don't want to ride that distance on 35W or 281. I will look into route 16. If Lancer is going that might work out for me. Kenny G |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by LANCER on 08/19/15 at 21:43:00 I'm interested but not sure just yet. |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 08/21/15 at 17:04:32 Yep, Denton would be a good bit of a ride in the wrong direction. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 08/21/15 at 17:12:25 According to Google my ride to Kerrville is about 276 miles. As long as you are not in a hurry it is not so bad. Just need to stop every now and then to let the blood flow again in your backside. And hopefully there is no thunderstorm going on. It would be great to see you in Kerrville Kenny. I hope you can make it. Riding that area is just so much fun. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 08/21/15 at 17:25:44 Spring, Given that there is so much time to prepare for the ride there is always the possibility that someone will turn up that will be passing through Denton. There is still a chance that Lancer may be going. I will hope for the best. Kenny G |

That's me, by the way. And Lancer. And Verslagen. TRUCKING and trailering means we can still go to these various events. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 08/26/15 at 18:12:37 I rode from Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Daytona Beach Florida a total of twenty times over my lifetime, beginning in 1960 and the last time in 1996. The ride was 950 miles each way and the best time I ever made was 21 hours. I missed the recognition of being an "Iron Ass" by 50 miles more than half of the trips The ride was done the last week of February and I would return home the second week in March. After traveling home and getting into the snow of 1996 I decided that a motorcycle was no longer my favorite way of travel. I rode a over 300,000 miles that I can prove, and probably another 100,000 that I didn't document. I am not going to make any excuses for wanting to travel to a motorcycle ride event in a pickup truck or a trailer. If any of the critics are still riding when they are 77 years old I will still be around to congratulate them and probably still riding. Kenny G |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by old_rider on 08/27/15 at 16:16:33 I usually ride the bike, but I "could" make an exception if someone would prefer to haul the bike. The wife and I are thinking about acquiring a trailer for two, because she doesn't want to take the "long way around" :) So a trailer is in the future, I am planning on an enclosed one that I can adapt to make it a "camper-ish" setup. I think it would prove to be quite a project for me (I am in need of a project at this time) and a possible income if I do it up right and a few folks want one. Since the time frame is so far away, i'll start looking for the "right stuff" now and keep you all informed :) |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 08/28/15 at 06:29:59 I hope we don't have to deal with the rain next year , can't say I wouldn't "chicken out" again ! I'm up in the "geezer" area now [ch128514] and glad to be here. ... Given some SUN SHINE I'll ride down the Nathez Tràce and camp at the South end of it next year. [ch9786] |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 08/28/15 at 07:04:24 Given a nice road tor travel and time to burn, I'd likely ride, in good weather, but on the slab I might haul instead If I used a trailer I could leave the cap on the truck, so if I wound up in a tent spot I still have something better than a tent to sleep in ;) |

It had the best breakfast burro I've ever had , it was homemade by somebody who must have grown-up making them. :P That Bugger place in the middle of no-where was top notch too. We would have to have a guide to ever find it again . It was totally unexpected when it just popped up . The way I remember it was : We came around a dune and Poof --- there it was . 8-) If we could I'd like to drive by the Alamo next time --- not stop or get caught in traffic , but just drive by and see it from the road. :) |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 09/17/15 at 15:40:43 MM you are 100% correct. Another way to look at this is as a good warm up for the Dragon. The Dragon will get your adrenaline pumping and then it is over in 20 minutes or so. I am hoping to ride the Sisters at least 2 more times before riding the Dragon again. The 3 Twisted Sisters is a loop of more that 100 miles, much more relaxed than the Dragon, but it still has curves that will test your skill mixed in with the straightaways. Good clean thumping fun! ;D |

Title: Re: 3 Twisted Sisters/Texas Hill Country - Spring Post by Oldfeller on 09/24/15 at 16:50:38 First thang is to get a non-retired moddyrater to create a sticky out of this thread. Then Old_Rider, you me and the rest of us put the Twisted Sissy stuff all in here so we can find ourselves wid both hands. We gots us two sets of folks planning to haul us all to Texas this spring. Me, I like Old-Rider's thought of the big puller and the big trailer, like we saw hauling a half dozen big hurleys on just last trip. Now that some of you guys have actually been on both trips you understand the contest --- who can out do and out BS the others. On the one trip you had breakfast buritos and tall stacked burgers. On the other trip you had all the beef brisket, BBQ and fixings you could eat. On one trip you were bumpin' grates and popping shock struts. On the other trip you if weren't bug eyed wid twisty terror then you was doing a little bit of butt bumpin' and bleedin' .... Each trip needs to up its game some to garner some more bonus point for the next year's earth shaking competition. Now mind you, I got a hidden advantage, I wuz born in Longview Texas and I got pics of me catching scorpions in a mason jar when I was 4 1/2 years old. You see, I thought it was a sort of funny fiddler crab, because by then I was living in tidewater Virginia and I knew all about catchin' crabs. My Texas Granny just about karked her drawers when I came out from under the domino table where I had been trying to catch crabs for the last 15 minutes crawling around over their feet with my mason jar. Yup, I came up with one big old black scorpion in my jar just a hitting the inside of the glass with his stinger and spraying yellow out on the inside surface. ;) |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 10/09/15 at 20:26:34 Well Art :-[ I was scared at one point my first Dragon trip. On my first return trip I got to swinging through the Rhythm Section and Parsons Branch petty fast (or so I thought) , yea just flying along ... I came up on the area called "Gravity Cavity" --- it has a strait section leading into it . Its a mild left followed by two 90 deg. rights back-to-back (15 feet between them). I could not keep it in my lane [smiley=sad.gif] , I was Praying nothing would come flying around the corner (one of those 100HP Sport Bikes or some out of control Electra-Glide) :-/. I promised myself "If I survive this, I'm not ever getting out of my lane EVER-AGAIN " :P . It wasn't long after that I found my foot-pegs dragging so I could stay in my lane (still praying not to meet that "out-of-control-first-timer" that I was just a short while back) . :) There was a spot on the Sisters ride where the road got tight and twistie at the same time --- kinda gave me the same feeling ! ;) seems like there was a "Dip" during the second twist part where my pegs found the pavement and I skipped a heart beat or two :D . |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 10/19/15 at 10:25:10 The date is already penciled in as mid to late April dependent on alma's neck interpretations and won't be penned in until February when we make the reservations. Of course this is not set in stone (or mini stone henge) and if an event steals enough interest away it can be moved. |

I made my Versey before I found out versey was doing them . you got a buddy with a welder ? If not plan on dropping by next time your in my neighborhood . From a cooled off motor we can have ya ready to crank-up in two hours. Procedure: 1. Lay bike on its left side 2. remove foot peg , clutch cable , and side cover 3. tensioner out , and add extra tab . 4. cut that spring so its not long enough to push too far anymore. 5. re-install tensioner 6. put on form-a-gasket and let it set 5 minutes 7. put side cover back on finger tight 8. put clutch cable , + foot peg on 9. walk away for an hour, go have lunch 10 Tighten side cover bolts and ride ! ;) its easy |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 12/12/15 at 20:05:09 Art, I did not have to change my tensioner until about 16,000 miles. Definitely a good idea to check but hopefully you still have at least 5k miles before you need to change it. I picked up the gasket for the cover on eBay for about 10 bucks or like oldfeller says you can use the liquid gasket now. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 12/12/15 at 21:33:34 I've never used anything but the liquid . but let it "set-up" a little so it has some "body" to finger tighten against , then tork the bolts after the gasket is formed and set . other wise it will just squeeze out and you will have nothing . ;) |

My roof, which also has a small leak (only in heavy rain, not light) is already tarped, and that works well, aside from sometimes sounding like a giant bat is trying to carry the trailer off The AC is installed in the back wall and is a non standard (rednecked in) install Now I give the installer credit. It is a well done install, probably better than I could pull off, and it has never leaked before that I've seen It is possible that the rain came in through the unit itself (I've seen that before and it was 'raining sideways') or it might need recaulking and painting (for some reason he didn't paint the woos used in the install) Either way it not a hard fix Add that to the roof leak, the faucet that won't turn off (working on that already) so I have to go fetch water with skeeters the size of hummingbirds coming at me in a swarm, and a porta potti for a toilet (and obviously no shower) and it gets frustrating at times I can't complain too much, I only paid $600 for it, and it keeps me mostly protected, I just want something bigger that doesn't have the issues A 16x8 Bunkhouse is not roomy by any stretch of the imaginaries The job of saving up $2000 for a down payment on a bigger better one with a flush toilet and such is going far too slowly for my taste |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 12/16/15 at 08:17:57 I work in the Dairy department of a grocery store, no education = low income, though 13 / hr ain't bad as to expenses. they're pretty light $300 / m land payment 20 / m gym dues 77 / m auto insurance (a 20 jump for moving 20 miles :-?) 117 / yr MC insurance gas food occasional eating out, not Sardi's, Whataburger lunches at work Dealer offered to take Savage + 1200 down If I sold or hocked my 44, I could do that next week get's me new Summerland mini with a 175-200 /mo payment.....for 144 months :o 12000 RV costs over 20k by the time it's said and done some of my friends who are into RVing say no, never buy new, also don't buy from this dealer this'll be a bear of a winter in this little camper, it's not holding up well to being lived in Other options are a Rip down the junk trailer that is currently occupying the spot I'd like to put the new trailer in, and build on the frame I only know residential construction, so this would not be an RV when I'm done, but more of a bitty mobile home I'm supposed to get permits if I build, but this is grey I know you can 'build' a cargo trailer with no permits, everyone out here builds with no permits, so I could likely get away with it even though it's shading a bit another thing: it big enough to include a 'shop area' in the construction (30 feet actual box length not including weird kickouts) B Get a portable shed and build it into a home Again I'm not building but modifying a prefab building, so no permit needed I could go pretty big with one of these, or go small for lower cooling / heating, and maybe another shed for a shop area either of these options take time and a lot of work, the Summerland I just park and hook up if my credit card weren't still in recovery from buying motos / parts, the dragon, and the sisters, I'd have this, but a 4500 credit limit doesn't matter when you have less than 1000 available credit at the moment ;D (yes, I paid for my Savage, all 3k of it, with a credit card) ::) |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by old_rider on 12/16/15 at 17:47:12 Is the junk trailer an actual RV with motor and all? or just a 12' X 60' or somesuch? Because it should already have a license on it, and you are doing "improvements" not rebuilding, besides.... it is on a movable frame, shouldn't have to do any permits. Well, down here in florida if its on wheels it has to be "road worthy" dmv inspection on completion. Does it have axles and wheels? If it is not "permenantly attached" (cemented) to the area, you should not have to pull a permit. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Dave on 12/17/15 at 06:49:06 I am a registered Building Inspector in KY, and for this State I believe the following to be true: Any accessory structure less than 200 square feet of floor area used for storage, garden shed, etc. is exempt from a Building Permit. The local Code may require a Zoning Permit - which approves the location and use of the building on the property. In some areas you cannot have an accessory structure without having a Principal Use (house or business).....in the small Cities I work for you cannot have a storage building or garage without having a house on the property. Often this is not applicable for active farms and the buildings that are required to operate them....it is possible to have farm buildings without a residence. If it s a dwelling and has a sleeping area - it is not exempt from the Building Code regardless of size. I believe that Campers, Mobile Homes, SUV's, etc. have to be built in compliance with the "Guidelines" established for those industries. If you are a manufacturer and want to have the "approved seal", you have to build in compliance with their guidelines. I don't believe there is anything that requires you to meet these standards if you are building a camper/motorhome for personal use. http://www.rvia.org/?ESID=Standards In the Cities where I work....you can't live in a camper on your property. In the rural parts of the County, especially along the Ohio and Licking Rivers, they are zoned for recreation uses and it is fine to have trailers and campers on the property and live in them. |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by old_rider on 01/13/16 at 22:04:54 Not looking good on my end yet..... will have to plan as the date gets closer. Still haven't resolved the back issue yet. Getting another set of shots on the 19th, if these don't work... surgery time. Heh, I was managing the pain with chemicals on my last trip (yes they were doctor prescribed), and the long trip took its toll, but I still had a lot of fun. Not sure I would do it again, unless I rode the little Ninja.... |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 01/14/16 at 10:53:06 Hurley, Ninja, Honda, whatever. The idea is just to get together and have some fun riding and some good eating. Best of luck with your back issues old rider. I have some back issues myself but to date have been able to handle with exercise, aleve and on rare occasions the prescription pain killer. Oh yeah, and chiropractic manipulation on occasion, but I really don't like any body messing with my neck. |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by youzguyz on 02/03/16 at 12:18:07 I just checked the cabin situation.. assuming those that are coming are interested in staying at the same place. http://www.kerrville.org/index.aspx?NID=1054 They now have it so you can reserve a specific cabin. All mini-cabins are still available for the April 1->5 or April 15->19. REMEMBER, this is open to ANYBODY who wants to come to Texas and ride the Hill Country. OR, if you are already in Texas.. ::) All I am doing is leading out the rides for those that want to know they are going to hit the best roads (my opinion) in the area. |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 02/03/16 at 21:52:12 Now's a good time to hash out the schedule. We don't have to finalize until someone rents the cabin. Last year the weather was cool, but not cold and drizzled from time to time. The mini cabin was exactly what was needed. All in all, a great trip. Due to the weather, the cabins weren't full, and I don't expect them to be this year either. About $70 each if I remember correctly. 5D4B515E43515D5E240 wrote:

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 02/13/16 at 23:28:50 Art, The IRS will mail you a bill if you owe any money. The IRS will never initiate a collection with a telephone call. I don't know, and don't want to know your business. But if you bought something and ended up with it without paying for it in full, the IRS considers it taxable income. You may be able to spread it over several years, or deprecate it. You DO need to talk to a knowledgeable tax person. Good luck. |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by badwolf on 02/15/16 at 08:01:31 After they repo'ed the mh, they will sell it to get their money back. Seldom do they get it all back (including legal fees, repo costs, storage, and sales & marketing costs). So whatever they don't get back technically you still owe. When they write off the debt they 1099 you and the IRS. Then the IRS considers that taxable income. That is a big hidden cost of a bad debt, if the finance company writes it off you don't have to repay it. BUT you have to pay taxes on it as income. And it is REAL hard to get the IRS to forgive it if you have anything to your name. Oh yea, it will screw up your credit history for a LONG time too. Sorry to bring bad news, but I'm just a messenger. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 02/15/16 at 08:49:53 so wait, I just financed a scooter to build credit history, that was after the debt was canceled (but before I knew it was cancelled) and the taxes are gonna re ruin it? keep in mind the repo was in the late 90s I pretty much had figured it the way you explained it, so far as that it wouldn't be so bad if the 16k wasn't more than my taxable income from wages, etc if it's gonna F my credit even with the scooter purchase, maybe I should look into bankruptcy, couldn't be any worse, right? sheesh I figured if I pay the taxes owed, even via a payment plan, it wouldn't ruin me |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 02/15/16 at 09:01:47 nothing's worst for credit history than no history. and bankruptcy will do a number on it for 7 years (so I've heard) I'd keep the payments up on the scooter, you might not be able to buy another one anyway. and if it turns out the irs will settle with payments, keep them up too. and get some tax advice from a professional. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 02/15/16 at 09:09:30 I fully intend to also intend asking the folks at the IRS |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by badwolf on 02/15/16 at 09:11:42 If you get things straight with the IRS THAT will not hurt your credit. The bad loan will. If it was back in the 90's it may have passed out of your credit history. You can check your credit online for free to see what is on it good or bad. I tell young guys to get a store cc like Sears, then buy $60-70 of tools you will need for the rest of your life. Make the first 2 payments then on the 3rd month PAY IT ALL OFF. Keep the card clean for a while and then you have some good credit history. When trying to build up your credit score don't max out your cards or accounts. Keep them paid down or off, and make your payments when you get the bill, NOT just before it's due. Late payments and min. payments kill your score. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by old_rider on 02/15/16 at 12:58:00 Built credit for my wife over a five year period, she couldn't buy a car by herself because she never built a credit history before she met me. Started with a secured card, put $300 on it, had her charge gas for her car.... first month payment.... do minimum payment, put the rest of payment in the savings account. Second month payment pay it off... by her sixth month she got an ad for a mastercard in the mail. Told her to do the same with it.... she did, for three months, got a visa ad in the mail. So we charged our groceries with it.... did the same plan... charge, do minimum, put the rest of total in savings... next month, pay it off. In five years her credit score was 802.... When you go to buy your stuff, make sure you have the money to buy it with cash.... then charge it and stick the cash in the savings.... in two months transfer the savings to checking and pay off the card in full... Easy peasy... and you are not going to spend anymore than you normally do. Biggest thing is... DO NOT SPEND THAT SAVINGS FOR ANYTHING! even emergencies.... thats the biggest way to go into debt. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 02/16/16 at 07:37:38 at this point I have two credit cards, a low total (250 limit, no balance) and one through my bank (4500 limit, currently 600 available credit) That's called revolving credit I was rejected on the Travel Trailer purchase due to no non revolving history (nothing being paid off over time) I have all the credit card credit I need, though I wish I wasn't so deep into the limit on the big one I needed credit history of a paid off over time asset the bad debt on the MH and auto repos have been hanging over my credit rating like a storm cloud for years had I known they could screw me like this I'd have likely found $5 a month or so to show good faith, but oh well, live and learn too bad I don't have 2400 available credit on the big card, but I don't think the IRS takes credit cards, anyway next month my card gets hit for 400 for my scooter insurance for the year Yay ;D hope the car loans don't do me the same way what's the latest a company may provide a 1099? I'd hate to iron this out with Uncle Sam and then get another surprise |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 03/10/16 at 21:02:05 Art , I'm not sure but I think we are staying 5 nights --- I'm leaving the 13th , getting to our cabin the 15th , staying 16,17,18,19th, leaving to ride home the morning of the 20th and getting home late on the 21st. Or so I've got it figured now ??? :-? Nine days my wife is doing without her cook ! She'll be so glad to have me back (I hope) ! ;) That makes me wonder ??? do we have reservations yet ? Versey volunteered to set things up last year --- do we need to take turns or stick with tried and true ? :-? and what is the name of that little town again ? |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 03/10/16 at 21:14:27 OK, rekon I'll plan on that, too, aside from cooking for the wife My (ex) wife had the good luck to marry a guy who liked to cook and was darn good at it, and the bad judgement to keep trying to tell him how to do it I think it was 1.5-2 years post honeymoon I walked out of the kitchen one night telling her "you know how to do it soo much better, cook it your freakin self" and nevermore would I rattle a single pot, for the next 16 or so years when someone has 15 years in commercial kitchens, 18 years of cooking at home before that, and by your own admission cooks better than you, quicker than you, and washes the dishes in 1/3 of the time you do, when that guy enters the kitchen, you sit down, shut up, and learn ;D |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 03/10/16 at 21:17:19 it just a busy week for me. you guys figure it out, I can make the reservations, just not now. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 03/10/16 at 21:59:27 Your the Man Versey ! hope the pressure lets up on ya . I heard somewhere : ::) something like -- "There ain't nothing a Sunny day and a full tank of fuel can't fix" ? Good luck my Friend ! 8-) |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by youzguyz on 03/11/16 at 09:48:20 Well.. somebody else already got Cabin 1.. unless it was Versey. Other cabins are still open. It will be the first real trip with the new tire , and the wider/taller bars off the Sportster. I got a air ride cushion from "Cycle Gear" , originally I got a pair (front/back-two piece) for the Harley but have put the smaller one on the front of the S-40 but haven't taken a long ride on it yet. It may be in my saddle bag by time I get to Texas ;D. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 04/01/16 at 09:45:50 Sounds good MM. I will probably do an oil change before the trip also. I wanted to do a lot more than just the oil change but I am running out of time and have just been too busy. |

I usually don't know what I'll be armed with till I pick my attire for the day ! ;) I believe all the States between me and Texas honor Tn.'s permits . :) that said : Tn. has open carry , but mines usually out of sight anyway. Mississippi ?? Louisiana ?? Texas ?? |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 04/02/16 at 06:42:16 I believe texas and Tn have reciprocity (I know Tx and Louisiana do) but you might wato study on it some I did pre Dragon trip, and the diferent laws state to state made me decide not to carry, mostly because some of them require the gun to be 'open' if you aren't licensed, while others want it hid in the vehicle (for non CHL holders) and I wasn't sure how David might feel about riding with a pistol on the dashboard ;D I just checked, Texas has reciprocity with Tenn, so once you're here you're golden OR is good to go to, as we have reciprocity with Florida (OR is in Fla, right?) Google: Tennessee CHL reciprocity and you should get your answers one o these days I gotta get my CHL again, although I can carry on the scooter without (Castle doctrine extended to vehicles, but it doesn't let you carry outside the vehicle, so you need a locking compartment to leave the gun in when you get off, scooter has 2) |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 04/03/16 at 15:30:39 OK. Other than oil change I think the bike is ready. I checked valves and all within spec. I tracked down issue with lights going out all of a sudden and that appears to be fixed. I discovered a big crack on the back of the light assembly and JB welded it. And I changed spark plug. The old plug had about 11k miles on it and it looked perfect but for 2 bucks, what the heck, put the new one in. I was going to get a new front tire but I'll wait a bit more. I'll do the oil change next week and clean the air filter. And guess what, after I did all these thing today, the bike still started up and ran great. ;D ;D ;D |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 04/04/16 at 07:36:07 I should probably change oil in the S wing, but I won't have time to get a tire in for the front tell the truth the dealer said it'd been changed, and the rear tire was new, so I believed him |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 04/10/16 at 09:41:26 Hey there Art. According to google maps it is actually a shorter distance for me via 290 even though time wise it is about 30 minutes longer. But since I do not travel at 75 mph 290 is probably the shorter route. I will study further to make sure. If I am wrong then 10 it will be. :) |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by youzguyz on 04/10/16 at 14:38:31 If you do take 290, I would suggest missing Austin. That road, on Friday, could be .. interesting. Depends on the time of day. If it was me.. 290, 21, 80, 35, 12, 32, 473, 27, and there. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 04/10/16 at 16:53:03 Thanks for the suggestion Youzguyz. I really did not intend to pass through Austin, I was thinking of going around Austin. But I really do not know yet. ;D |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 04/11/16 at 07:30:42 I'm sorta half considering 71, to miss San Antonio, as that only hits the tip of Austin (honestly a houstinite would probably look at Austin traffic and say 'what traffic?) though last time me and MM did ok going 10 back, via some sort of beltway type road if ya decide on 10 let me know, maybe we can meet up |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 04/12/16 at 20:25:09 :-/ ::) So I'm all set to leave in the morning soon as I find a way around that Monster Storm ??? If the Storm is going North - Then I could go South then West through Houston ... :-/ |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 04/12/16 at 20:41:28 Last I saw storm is heading east. Looks like it is in the San Antonio area right now (about 10:30 pm central time). The news said we (Houston area) would get the brunt of it at around 2 to 3 am. They indicated severe thundershowers, winds up to 60 mph, hail and possible flooding in the area. Thursday is supposed to be a nice sunny day. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 04/12/16 at 21:51:24 OK. All light weight items removed from back yard. Others tied or nailed down. Cars moved up on driveway and on the grass in case of flooding. My son's car in San Antonio had both front and rear windshields destroyed by hail. Hoping hail does not hit here. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by youzguyz on 04/13/16 at 03:35:01 I was reading, and heard what I thought was a herd of romping roof raccoons. Then there were a more of them.. then a LOT more of them. It was the hail. Some places in town got blasted real hard. No damage at my place.. as far as I know. I will inspect when I go home from work. Speaking of the weather.. it looks to be sucky for the weekend. :( See forecast below. And add to that I have to work early on Monday.. but should be able to bust out of here and get headed north before you guys are even awake. Assuming it isn't pouring down rain. Youzguyz, I am glad that all is ok with you. As regards the weather forecast it has been changing and changing so hopefully it will change for the better. |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Dave on 04/16/16 at 13:56:15 Are you guys having fun yet? |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 04/16/16 at 14:03:46 I'm having too much fun. Beast is hard starting. So before the dragon last year I changed the starter and it was ok. Lately it's come back. I checked the voltage while starting and its dropping below 10. Checked the stator it's ok. Rectifier is giving me a bunch of weird readings. Might be bad. Also the earth x bat might not be charging fully on the Schumacher I have. Did you get their charger or have any issues? |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Dave on 04/17/16 at 05:11:08 I did not get a special charger for the EarthX, and it has been working fine for the last 3 years. I never have put it on a charger or battery tender since I bought it. I wonder if your LED headlight is too efficient and you are not using up enough juice from the charging system....and the extra is causing some problems in the durability of the charging system? |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 04/17/16 at 06:54:09 I hope you guys are having better weather than we are having here in Denton. Good Luck & Be Safe.... Kenny G |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 04/17/16 at 06:54:26 The starter stalls and the decomp isn't doing the job. I have to set it on the exhaust stroke to get it started. When it stalls the bat goes dormant. And that's the only way to tell how charged it is, by how long it stays dormant. |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 04/17/16 at 20:48:37 Super day today. Today was one time I'm glad the weather man lies. We left to get break fast and rode in the dry all day long [ch128512]. Stopped for lunch at "hillbilly's". It almost started to rain , so we ran from the clouds and in 3 mins. Was in the sunshine again [ch128521]. We did go 10 miles down a road that "T" ed into two directions with "no outlets" today So Springman says "there's a curvey road going to a cave in this area , but I can't remember the name of it . so we ask Garmin it was called "cave with no name" [ch128514]. We had icecream there ;) Running from the rain with no place else to go can make an interesting day 8-) Places seem really far apart in Texas ::) |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 04/17/16 at 20:53:55 M M, I am glad you guys didn't have the rain like we had here in Denton today. Be Safe! Kenny G |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 04/18/16 at 12:32:45 I am wondering how you guys are doing and how the weather has been? Kenny G |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 04/19/16 at 20:56:44 Rode the sisters today ! :) Great Ride.[ch128513] |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by KennyG on 04/19/16 at 21:20:13 M M, I am glad to hear that you guys are still on the ride. The rain here is supposed to be at 3:00 AM Wednesday morning. If you can make it through to Friday and Saturday it should be clear skies. Kenny G |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 04/21/16 at 09:18:03 I'm home, sleep is over rated. only trouble I had was getting thru El Paso. I guess the only thing to do in town is get on the freeway cause everybody was there. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 04/21/16 at 10:04:31 Versy, glad to know you are home. MM left from my house this morning and just before he left we had a light drizzle so he was all suited up again. The ride to my house yesterday though was totally dry. Dave, I can't believe you noticed. Good eye for detail. I sorta like the leather pieces on there. However, on the ride home the bent screw worked its way out and now I only have one leather piece. I did discuss options for replacing the tail light with Versy so hopefully I will find one I like and get it taken care of soon. We had a great time. We wish more of you all could have shared in the fun. I will try to get some pictures and video posted tonight if I am not at work too late. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 04/21/16 at 20:10:26 the ride was a hoot! only got rained on a little This may have been my last group ride though, my problem wrist was giving me hell every time we went up a twisty road, from all the on / off throttle adjustments, and my hand was numb / tingling most of most of the days Throttle locks don'y help much on winding roads I may try a cramp buster and see if that helps, as you can on/ off the throttle without gripping with those things when I arrived at my friend's house in columbus where I'd left my truck, I was never so glad to get off a bike :o |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by verslagen1 on 04/21/16 at 20:55:49 Art you might try a different grip. The Kury Iso grips are very soft and will help. And the knock offs are pretty reasonable. Also, if that scooter has 7/8 bars, the Iso grips will make it like 1" bars. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 04/22/16 at 06:58:12 Thanks Versy, I'll keep that in mind |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 04/22/16 at 07:37:22 Hay Art After the Sisters Ride this year , I thought I had Carpel tunnel setting in ! ;D Guess , I must have been "Death-Griping" the throttle . ::) The "Cramp Buster" I've got on my S-40 made the 17 hrs ride from Springmans a do-a-ble-thing . 830 miles in one day --- I started to just miss my Interstate exit till I had another 170 miles or so . ;) As it turned out I got home about 1 am and was glad to be here ! ;D |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 04/22/16 at 09:25:56 freeway riding is no problem for me, I have a throttle lock (vista cruise) and it works well, just lock the throttle and i can even take my hand off the throttle completely it was the twisty bits where I couldn't use it that wrecked me the cramp buster can, with a bit of common sense, even be used in the twisty bits honestly I'm starting to think I have carpal tunnel not sure if that would radiate pain up to the elbow, though |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by youzguyz on 04/23/16 at 14:51:28 I want to say how much I enjoyed seeing ya'll again. I know the weather wasn't stellar.. or very solar.. and I really am sorry about not being able to ride with you more and show you around more. I ain't going to to into all the reasons, cause it will just make me mad. Let's just say.. I WILL be a better "host" next year!! If you want to see some pictures, and you are on face book, you can go here for a look. https://www.facebook.com/neal.achterhof My pictures are posted "public", so you don't have to be my "friend" to see them.. even though.. well.. I do count you (both the guys that made the trip, and everyone on this forum) as friends.. or at least as someone who I would allow to buy me a beer! :D |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by springman on 04/24/16 at 10:01:21 Well the bike is clean now. I covered a total of 1340 miles during the 6 days of the ride, approximately 600 miles round trip, so about 740 miles of riding in the hill country. It was fun. Sorry I have not posted much or said thanks to all. Got a bit sad when our dog Sammie, a 13 year old mini dachshund suddenly passed away on Friday morning. It appears he had a heart attack. I heard him yelp twice. I went running to see what was going on but immediately I knew it was serious. He slumped over into my hands and died as I was rubbing his chest. He was a great dog. He brought much happiness to me and my entire family. His absence hurts and we will miss him dearly. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Dave on 04/24/16 at 16:00:51 Sorry to hear that your dog passed away. Our 15 year old Coonhound died 1.5 years ago, and we still miss her. Our new puppy is teaching us how to be good parents again. |
Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by MMRanch on 04/24/16 at 20:17:58 Sorry to hear about Sammie ... :( Sound like ya'll had 13 good years together , so I'm glad for ya to have the love of a pet for that long. We all have believes about the meaning of life and we get reminded of the fact of death . To be loved by those around us makes a big difference . To know the love of our maker is the ultimate ! Nobody knows all the assures ( I sure don't) |

Title: Re: Twisted Sister Ralley 2016 Post by Art Webb on 05/20/16 at 07:02:10 well we hauled patootie before the second round of rain, the first would likely have caught us in the open if MM hadn't been making new friends Seeing that first round was the worst of that day IMO, it's a good thing he's such a friendly fella |
