I just picked up my first bike.  2006 S40   14K miles, with new tires, battery, carb clean and oil change.  $2,300  (Easy monthly payments....  ;D) First thing done, day two was the exhaust.  The existing exhaust literally chirped, and was too quiet.  I unbolted stock muffler, slid it off, and slid on a 1.75 Dynomax glass pack, 15 inches long.  I drilled and screwed it to the stock head pipe, and will wrap the entire exhaust in black header wrap.  Sound is better, loud, but not obnoxious, but enough to be heard. Now, to the questions: 1.  There seems to be some info on popular jetting changes, but I can't seem to find a suggested vendor as to where to get them?  I will take any first hand recommendations on jetting size, etc. 2.  The bike needs the seat lift modification, and feels comfortable, other than the bars.  They are too narrow, and I find myself wanting to hold the end of the handles.   Does anyone have a suggestion for an option for a wider handle bar?

Title: Re: New to me S40, couple questions... Post by Sonny on 07/06/15 at 18:15:50 Suzuki's change from the swept Savage bar to the S40 drag bar was interesting. Because of the tall risers on the S40 drag bar, the two are at about the same height, and almost the same position, with the drag bar a little forward and a little narrower. But the main difference is the pronghorn bar's grips slant down and back and the drag bar grips are flatter. Which, to me, is ergonomically better. I ride an old Savage and my wrists tend to tire from the slanted, down-dropping grip placement on the old style bar. When I get on a S40 the drag bar feels good to me. But that's just my 2 cents.

Post by Backtobasics on 07/07/15 at 07:41:58 I found the drag bars work nicely when you reverse the risers, which allows you a little more room to stretch out.  Got the idea from Blue Collar Bobbers site.  Everyone's rider triangle is different, but checking out this option only takes 20 minutes or more.  And yes, the seat mod is so worth it!

I ended up machining the risers to 2" and boring and tapping the riser to fit on the triple tree. I really like this setup and the finish on the risers match the bar clamps. Kenny G

Try rotating the bars down to reduce the pull back. you will at some point need to file off the alignment pins inside of the controls. they have ample grip with out them.

If so...he's already a good 5" over the triple tree. I put Triumph Bonneville bars on my Savage. 30" wingspan. Very comfy for me at 5' 11" with 24 " sleeves. I'd suggest just trying a wider set of drag -type or even Euro-type bars and just go for a wider stance. Unless you NEED a higher grip point, there is no need to get a set of bars with more than 3" rise. Also, as mentioned, keep your "pullback" to a low number unless you are feeling like your leaning over the tank. If as you say, you seem to feel good about your riding position when you grip the bars at the extreme ends, dont do anything except get a wider bar. The best I can find is that the S40 stock drag bar is only 26" wide with a zero pullback. If that is indeed that case, a simple pair of $30 drag bars at 29 1/2" ought to do the trick.
