Title: Bike won't start
Post by jeffsavage on 05/05/15 at 12:27:51

replaced a few seals in the engine, put it back in time and it started up 5 or 6 times. Left it set for a day or two and now I can't get it started. Would turn over a week ago but sit start. Yesterday it was just clicking with a fully charged battery. Went directly from battery to starter and the starter work so I know it's not bad(hell the bike almost started, but I had gas tank off checking the plug and only a little gas I put in the piston through spark plug hole to see if it was getting gas) think it might be the solenoid under the seat where the starter cable runs to. Put a tester on the hot part of solenoid and it was reading 2.?? V

Flakey readings, bad ground.

posting in wrong section, bad user.

Yep....but it was originally posted in the Technical Section before Verslagen moved it.

RUBBER SIDE DOWN......question about your Savage.
TECHNICAL SECTION......proven "How To" articles.
CAFE.....Non Savage questions, fun, trips, jokes, Tom Foolery, Friends.

Test the voltage at the battery and see if it matches the voltage at the solenoid, and make sure you got the ground wire securely mounted and that it is a "good" wire from end to end.

Next time you want to prime it, shoot Berrymans or ether at the intake. EASY with the ether, you can hurt things with too much. It's easy to prove that the motor IS getting spark and wants to run.

Sounds like either a resistive connection or bad solenoid.
You proved that the battery is good enough to start it. Make sure that the battery IS hot. Volt meter is essential for maintenance. Make sure that the ground on the engine is good. Test, with ohm meter, run from negative on battery to engine case.
