i dont know how to work the search function yet so,is there by any chance a photo of a carb float siting in a can or something mine floats but without any vigor!

Floating lifeless is fine for float... ;D...

I believe the OP is asking something more along the lines of should it just barely float or should a good portion of it be out of the liquid?

Dry it off, hold it gently and lovingly between your fingertips and shake it. If you don't feel stuff sloshing about inside it, then what are the odds that it's leaking?
Is it plastic or metal?
Have you held it down and given it a squeeze?

ok has any savage /s40 ever had anything but a coper soldered float? i think not . so i would love to see it floating in a vessel of fuel to see how erect does it get?
no nube here 50 years owing 25 or more bikes just a Honda ,BSA triumph, BMW guy trying to learn the easy way .
i am guessing a few of the posters i have encountered in the last week in a few of my threads could learn allot from my questions and future involvement giving advise, just saying.eta no sloshing ,no crushing and a gross weight of just under 10 grams

It should just float. If you are unsure if it has a pin hole, simply hold it in a glass of water. If you see bubbles, it has a hole. If it fills it has a hole. As Justin said, if you hear any sloshing, it has a hole.

The float isn't calibrated by its buoyancy, it's calibrated via the bendable tangs.

One way to make this even more pronounced...is to place the float in the fridge and let it get cold. Then pull it out of the fridge and submerge the float in warm water. As the float warms up the air inside will expand......and if there is a hole in the float it will be blowing bubbles as the air expands.

thank you all for your advise i have tried all the checks for leaks and there none . i have seen "heavy" metal floats and it is a very rare occurrence . i am ordering a new float and will post results of the differences if any .thanks again
