Title: Duke Engine's new 5 cylinder axial engine
Post by old_rider on 12/18/14 at 18:55:43

Oh boy! I'm liking were this is going.... can you imagine a smaller one than they have now? Its a 1000cc, smaller ones would really change the motorcycle world.

Axial motor, way cool  8-)

I saw an engine like this up a the Wright Patterson Airforce Museum.....I believe it was made in the 1960's.  I imagine the new materials and technology could make this engine more feasible than it was 50 years ago.

I imagine the patent went due and no one bought it up, maybe Duke did and applied the newer metals technology.

Been around since about 1906, but it had valves back then...

Yep, it's been around a long time, used nowadays as torpedo engines (is the right shape to pack in a tube) air compressors and nearly all automotive air conditioner compressors as well as engines, with some mad and creative configurations. It'd take some getting used to the look in a bike frame but I suppose it could be disguised as a gigiantic single cylinder engine  ;)

super thump!!

Well, technically, it would be a thump, thump, thump, thump, thumper!

But with all technology, it can be made smaller... I would like to see a 500 version.... maybe 1/3 smaller in size I would think...

Very interesting to see what applications they will do with it. And why not a motorcycle? Its a bit more efficient, and lighter.... make it smaller CC and you could add a bigger gas tank, with a weight decrease to boot!

Here is a YouTube of the thing in motion, showing how 3 plugs can give 6 power strokes per engine revolution out of a 5 cylinder engine.

(yeah, I couldn't envision it either -- but it is so)

The fact that it can burn ANY conventional liquid fuel interchangeably makes it very interesting to me ......

.... and here is one of his competitor's ideas (based off Soviet torpedo technology).

=========================

....... now lets get "real" -- DARPA (US Military) has developed its own high efficiency WWII German Junkers type  technology, a diesel/gas/alcohol/multi-fuel engine that is fully balanced (motion balanced) and fully force balanced and has four pistons operating in two cylinders.   300 hp out of two cylinders .....  not bad.

Having been real, let's get fanciful with the air bounce totally efficient energy engine .....

Nikola Tesla, was a Absolute,  GENIUS !!!!!

At one time, The, 'Experts' of the day,
said:   "The Earth is Flat".
At one time they said: "The Sun revolves around the earth".

Today, they say: "You can NOT, transmit energy in the air"
and: Their is NO, 'free' power".

What will be said/proven, tomorrow ?

Nikola Tesla, was a Supreme Scientist,
He was Not a, 'Marketer'.

Like Westinghouse/Morgan/Asher/Marconi/ etc.
who made HUGE  amounts of money off his work.

Looking over the links, spent a pleasant afternoon,
re-learning, what, I HAD, learned before.

So  MANY, Possibilities, and so many, bureaucrats,
who, hide inventions, only to be able to fly, 'first class'.
