I live in southern New Jersey and I deliver pizzas for a living. On one of my runs I saw a set of small forks sticking out from under a canvas tarp in a customer's garage. I asked him about the bike and he told me it was purchased from a Sears mail order catalog in 1969. The bike is complete with a few extra parts. It is definitely a project.

It needs tires, paint, chrome, some sandpaper and a whole lotta lovin'. The seat was "fixed" very poorly but the original skin is still there. All of the chrome is flaking badly.

Some points he told me about the bike:
Shifting is reverse to most bikes today
It has a generator so the lights aren't all that great
It will do 50 mph
It has a flat back tire
It hasn't been ridden or registered since 2002
He has some literature on the bike
Title unknown

It has around 2500 miles

He didn't have any idea what it goes for so any offers are great
The bike is located in lindenwold NJ

In that condition....it really isn't worth much...maybe a hundred dollars.

It was made by Gilera, and you can find parts on eBay....or complete bikes.

Best thing to do with it might be to buy it cheap, get it running, and then just ride it as is. Unless you have some emotional attachment to it and want to invest money in it to bring back old memories.......a proper restoration will cost more money then the bike will ever be worth.

Well I don't think he plans on getting rich by selling it. It is a rebadged Italian gilera sold by Sears in the USA in 1969. I can't handle another project and he wants the bike gone. Any takers?

I work the next 3 days solid but he might order a pizza. I probably won't be able to get a picture until monday.

I had never heard of a Gilera 106, much less a 106cc, as the typical engine sizes in Italy have always been 50cc and 125.
There have been a few, rare 90cc, but that was it.

Agewise, the categories were 50cc for 14y.o., 125 for 16y.o., 150/175cc for 18+y.o. riders.
As 106... meaning 10.6cu.in does mean 175ccs, that is a true possibility.

You might find bits for the bike on the European scene; your best bet is www.ebay.co.uk, lots of parts there and it's in English.
Pity many sellers will refuse to ship to the US (but if you have payPal... ;) ) often as retaliation that US sellers will not ship to Europe.

Gearbox is most probably a 4-speed, on the right, 1st up, 2-3-4 down.
Brake pedal on the left.
Definitely an easy bike to work on, 6V DC generator/magneto will make feeble light for night driving, but hey! You still get 70+mpg !
AND points/condenser ignition means you can retard the spark and run on the foulest regular ever, and she'll still get the job done.
AND no battery to worry about, either... ;)

Consider her a project-after-next. Could require more hours than dimes, but will still be a talking piece when it's over.
OR
Sell it to the first pimply youth who is willing to ride "the only vintage Italian bike this side of the Mississippi!" 8-)
