Hey and Hi.  Can't get your email to respond for me,
Been following your posts and your products. Great stuff!
Contact me as I would like your cam chain tensioner and head plug for my '07 S40.  I've had the bike just a few months after some 25+ years not riding. Superb bike, just about perfect for me. The S40 had only 2200 mi and very clean; seems 2 previous owners didn't see the machine's virtues.

Hey all.  Just wanted to post on here and give a positive review for Verslagen.  Easy to communicate with and very prompt with his replies.  Perhaps its the holidays, but the plug came in two days from Cali to NH.  WOW!!!

Plug looks exactly as it does in the pic and fits even better!  Nice and snug!  A mechanic friend pointed out to me that Verslagen is on to something.  A rubber plug in an aluminum block expands at a different rate than an aluminum plug in an aluminum block does.  On that concept right there I was sold weather this is true in this case or not.  It didn't cost much more than it would have cost me for an updated plug and it fit quick and easy.

Thanks for making a nice fix for a failed mechanism!

Now to figure out why my bike won't start.

Hey verslagen, I bought a 2001 Savage last week and I have been dying to fix the oil leak, and thank god I found this thread before I ordered the rubber cap. Like one of the posters above the email link was giving me trouble so here I am instead. Please let me know if you still have any in stock and how you can take my money  :)

It looks like I have a new machinist, piece price is more than I planned for so I may have to up the price a couple of bucks, but it's close.  Definitely better than my aerospace machinist contact.

I should have them around the end of the month.

Please be patient.

You have a choice of $50 (3 day/insured) or $25 (10 day/uninsured) or $15 (sometime in the near future/forgetaboutit)
For the last 2 options, you can add registered mail which puts it in the same room as insured for $15.

Hi new to the forum,  motorcycle mechanic with a few years experience. First savage I've owned. Actually got to put some miles on it today, it's leaking near the exhaust port,  front of the cylinder. Thought it was a head gasket,  could this plug possibly be the issue?  I had no idea was scrolling through and found this. Second question could this plug do damage if I continue to ride it like this for the next few weeks.

Could just be the nut/stud need cleaning and tightening.

Just got it in the mail thanks again! It's got colder again up here in Canada so I might tackle it this weekend. Just wondering about TDC. Does it have to be at TDC for the plug install?
Thanks

Yes, the engine needs to be at TDC.  If you don't have the engine at TDC, the cam could be holding one of the valves open, and the valve spring can push on the cover and make it hard to remove - and impossible to put back on.  You also will need to check the valve clearance after you have replaced the head plug, and this will require you to know where TDC is located.

Title: Re: Head Plug Replacement
Post by motorboater on 04/27/16 at 18:14:47

Thanks Dave. I have researched it a bit more and yes I figured out why it needs to be at TDC. I'm not sure why I was confused I think I was thinking about a 2 stroke engine lol. I didn't tackle it because I am going to buy the Clymer's manual just to be safe.
Cheers

I have this bike since 1992, and I tried to seal the head-bolt cap like 7 times.
It never lasted more than a few days: drip, oily mess, and constant oil-level checking...

I installed verslagen1's machined metal, O-ringed cap couple of weeks ago --
years too late. Thanks!

Yes, there are about 22 bolts to get to it, but once you do, you don't want to
put that ill-fitting stock plug there. Great job; recommended!

Verplug arrived to final destination, thank you!

Well... almost final destination. Sitting with new tires (still had original tires),  fuel mixture screw, gaskets, raptor, oil + filter (in a post I read that we don't need the additive with rotella 6 anymore unless we want to bring it to max level?) Wanted to link that post to the original oil post but it was locked.
About to see what condition that tensioner is in!
