Title: Giant Frog!
Post by Dave on 10/01/14 at 04:59:13

Last night I went for a ride around the block just after dark.  I had been cutting down dead Ash trees all evening and put the tools away just before I ran out of all daylight, and I needed a ride before I went into the house.

About a mile from my house I saw a "huge" green bullfrog on the road, and I turned around to chase it off the road.  I parked my bike on the sidestand with the engine running, and the headlight shining toward the frog.  I guess the combination of the headlight and idling engine was like a sedative to the frog - I reached down and picked it up, carried it over to the side of the road, and set it down in a field.  The thing didn't move a muscle!

I experience the same thing when I mow around my pond with the push mower or weed wacker during the daytime.  The sound of the engine seems to lull the frogs into a trance.....I can reach down and pick them up....they don't move!  It really makes it hard to mow without killing any frogs hiding in the long grass.

I thought I should take it home and transplant it into my pond.....but I didn't have a pocket that big for the trip home!

Maybe it's the rainy weather here in the North West that makes our frogs so huge. Your frogs Dave are tiny compared to ours. This is a common sight while riding in Oregon.
