You will be surprised they are generally very old, have had very little "official" education (many barely made it past elementary school) yet have whittled their intellect and mind by absorbing culture. It's not just the errant bard who can sing 5 or 6 epics offhand, but the farmers, sheperds and the like who will take to this form of culture as a highly respected form of art. Many made history as Court Jesters, or Bards, many simply stayed put, got married, settled down and handed their "art" from father to son, generation after generation. Oddly, it's always been considered a "man thing"; men would recite improvised poems, women would sing improvised chants. The bullies were always the biggest idiots. So now we have years of scientific research and development and our tax dollars spent to buy the most devastating tools of destruction all in the hands of people whose intellectual capabilities and lack of spiritual maturity may well lend them to choose a violent course of action rather than a wiser and gentler path. That we have seen the Military Industrial Complex gain more and more control over the choice of direction is no comfort. I still contend that they have been so successful that they now not only urge the use of force at every opportunity,they also use the CIA and mercenaries to Create unrest,so that there will always Be a crisis that needs bullets and bombs being spent,so they make money and consolidate power. Our generation,unless this nation changes course,will not recognize the Land of the Free before we die. It's already MUCH different from the place I grew up in. We used to walk through the oil field,just off of I-20,shotguns and rifles,dove or quail or just popping Jack rabbits... Today,the cops would be all over a few armed teens.. and a pick-up truck with a rifle rack? They were part of life. Parked in the school parking lot. No biggie... try that today..Take a butter knife to cut the cake and get arrested.. |
