Title: Which saddlebags are you rockin'? Post by Tocsik on 05/29/14 at 20:24:32 Just curious about what saddlebags folks are using here. The Viking bags seem popular but I'm not sure what some of the differences are such as those with a 'shock cutout' etc. Throw-over or hard mount? I suppose detachable would be convenient. Also wondering what size looks too big or too small on the S40. I know personal preference enters into it for what size to get but don't want to either dwarf the bike or make 'em look like blisters ;) Thanks in advance for any replies! Any links or pics would be greatly appreciated. |

Viking Bags sends the same "universal" mount kit with all their bags. The mechanic says the mount kit is totally useless because it doesn't line up right on the S40, and it's not a problem that can be fixed with spacers. He's looking at trying to fabricate something, but I wouldn't buy from Viking Bags for an S40. If you do order from them, make sure to get the turn signal relocation kit at the same time. |

I prefer the big bags on Pokey, but they would look ridiculous on Sam and other Savages/S40s running the stock rear fender. |

Post by ihasabike on 05/30/14 at 18:34:38 Update on the viking bags is that the mechanic said the only practical way to mount them is to soft mount them with the saddle bags supports that Suzuki makes for the S40 (part number SU-990A0-75036). That's another expensive part and who knows how long delay to get it. The money don't bother me as much as the delays that keep stacking up. first a delay for my bags to ship, then a delay to order the turn signal relocation kit, then a delay to find out I need these supports, and I have to wait for them too. This has been the most frustrating issue with this bike. |

Serious pain in the neck to mount, as you need to track down an old Rocky, Tucker, Nempco etc bottom mount to sidemount headlight conversion bracket for a HydraGlide. That would be the chrome widget under the seat, bolts to the underside of the fram horns and the fender then mounts in it, exhaust pipe is the rear fender support. Strictly for solo seat operation, it won't support much more than 80-100 pounds. |
