I have managed to get the fuel tank off my old savage ( 1997 ). It has still has some fuel in it but it will not drain out from the pipe attached to the petcock ( is that the right word ). I reckon that there must be around 1/2 gallon in the tank still and I want to get rid of it. In my innocence I thought it would be as simple as removing said tank and then draining it via the fuel pipe. Nothing seems to come out ( save for the odd dribble ).

This bike has been stood for at least three years ( according to the previous owner ) So I am keen to get rid of this fuel. Is it possible that the petcock could have become blocked or gummed up over the years ?

Any hep or advice would be appreciated.

Did you place the petcock in the prime position to drain the fuel?

To be honest I am not sure what the prime position is. This said I have had the petcock in ALL positions available ... just in case

2 screws will remove the petcock completely... :-?...

It sounds like thngs are all gummed up. If you have the fuel tank off, lay the tank on the right side and let the fuel flow to that side, remove the 2 screws holding the petcock on, then pick up the tank and tilt it over so that it can drain out the petcock hole and into a bucket. You could also just turn it upside down and drain it out of the filler neck.

Then you are going to have to clean out the tank, and install a Yamaha factory Raptor petcock.....no sense in fooling with the original vacuum petcock as it is most likely gummed up and not worth fixing so that it can fail on you later.

Dave nails it,, the only thing Id use the old petcock for is to plug the hole after you drain it. Then put some gas in & swirl it around. Drain again & look at what comes out,,& look at the screens on the petcock,,

Yea, for sure, youve gotta dump that old gas,,Open the cap, dump it in the oil change pan,look around inside the tank, rinse with clean gas, at least.. do whatever the tanks condition demands,,
