Title: Engine dies in first gear
Post by thomasoconnor19 on 07/13/13 at 16:33:42

When I try to shift into first gear the motor dies. I have the ryca kickstand and I already have the kickstand wires connected together and it used to not have this problem.

I know have a different tank and no speedo/neutral light. Is there something else electrical I need to do? I still have the original decompression setup.

Well,, Id say check that connection you trust so much,, IDK how ya did it, or if its possible a wire broke, but thats the easiest place to start
AND, its a place hands have been,, always something to look at,,

On the RYCA the kickstand switch is no longer used....it is bypassed.

Think about this...what would kill the engine while it is running? Put the kickstand down with out the clutch in and it kills the engine. You say the kickstand switch is disconnected or bypassed. Is it possible the neutral switch is crossed with the kickstand switch? This would explain the engine kill when you put it in gear. Just another idea that might be easy to check out.

This is happening to me also. I have the sidestand safety wired together to bypass it. I also wired the clutch cutout to bypass it. The bike will start in neutral but dies as soon as I put it in first. I don’t think the clutch is mechanically killing the engine as the bike moves freely with the clutch pulled in and engages when released. Also, the bike is not “jerking” much when I put it in gear... it just dies. Am I missing something? Maybe bypassing the clutch safety is the issue?
