Title: larger front wheel
Post by greenmonster on 04/25/13 at 13:58:52

Can someone please explain to me what the benefit is of a larger, (generally you see them skinnier) front wheel?

I'm not looking for the esthetics answer. Some folks have told me that it handles better, but I'd really like to know why?

Back in my dirt bikes days......a 21" diameter front wheel instead of an 18" wheel would slow the handling down and make the bike more stable.  The bike would change direction slower.  I suppose the same is true on a street bike.  Sport bikes have small diameter wheels and zip aound corners....Cruisers have bigger wheels and go straight really well.

A large diameter skinny tire is quicker handling,a short wide tire is slower. If you ever go acros a steel grate bridge with a skinny,it'll feel like the wheel wants to come off it wobbles so bad.The wider, not nearly as noticable. At least on a cruiser style bike.
