Title: Bike is finished :D
Post by Remember2 on 04/13/13 at 22:53:13

Hello everybody. Just wanted to share me finished Savage, as I always enjoy reading about projects...

It's a 1997, which I bought earlier this year from a dealer. All mechanics were fixed be the dealer prior to the sale - so I could concentrate on the more cosmetic things.

I ended up changing the handlebars, exhaust, seat(cover), indicators, petcock (raptor), and removing rails, sissy bar, windshield, saddlebags, mirrors, etc.

I also ended up having the bike airbrushed in an old school - Gulf Oil Motorsports theme. I've always loved the color combination, and the racing relationsship.

Other than you need to step down to a 90/90-19 or 80/90-19 front tire, looks great.

And that is a monstrous license plate... :o

Thank you very much. Tires are brand new from the dealer, so that will have to wait :)

Yes license plates are very big here in Denmark... never seen them bigger anywere :-/  ...and mouting them one the side of the bike is illegal, so this is the way it has to be :)

Your plate might make you more visible to drunk or distracted car drivers

Looks great, but why Gulf? That thing doesnt use enough gas to get a sponsorship.

Thanks everyone, very much :)

Good questions about the Gulf theme. First of all, I have always liked the color combination of baby blue and orange. On top of that, I remember playing with toy cars when I was a child... my favorite being a series of Gulf racing cars. So someway the "Gulf" has stayed with me always.

I considered going for an "anonymous version" with a racing number instead, but eventually went for the logo (obviously).

Paint job was made by an amateur airbrusher I found on a national forum. I designed the graphics though :)

Looking Good! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  I've always liked the Gulf color scheme as well, and I like the way you incorporated flames in the orange.

Very nice!  What are the handlebars?  I'd like to swap those onto mine.

I love that paintjob!

Also like that you have removed the struts on the rear fender. Kind of regret I didn't closed up the holes on mine prior to painting it.

And yeah, our license plates are ridicolus large! :)

Where in DK do you live?
