Title: Bike is finished :D Post by Remember2 on 04/13/13 at 22:53:13 Hello everybody. Just wanted to share me finished Savage, as I always enjoy reading about projects... It's a 1997, which I bought earlier this year from a dealer. All mechanics were fixed be the dealer prior to the sale - so I could concentrate on the more cosmetic things. I ended up changing the handlebars, exhaust, seat(cover), indicators, petcock (raptor), and removing rails, sissy bar, windshield, saddlebags, mirrors, etc. I also ended up having the bike airbrushed in an old school - Gulf Oil Motorsports theme. I've always loved the color combination, and the racing relationsship. Before: http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/1.jpg Work has begun: http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/2.jpg http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/3.jpg While the tins are being prepared for airbrushing, the handlebar and exhaust are changed (not pictured): http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/4.jpg Airbrushing can begin: http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/5.jpg http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/6.jpg http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/7.jpg Closeup of ghost flames: http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/9.jpg Closeup of pinstribes: http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/10.jpg http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/11.jpg http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/12.jpg Closeup of tank with airbrushed logo: http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/13.jpg Bike almost finished, with new seat, exhaust, handlebar, indicators, mirrors, etc...: http://www.kenberg.dk/diverse/forums/ls650/14.jpg More pics on => page 2 (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1365918793/21#21) 8-) Comments and criticism are very welcome 8-) |

Title: Re: Bike is finished :D Post by WD on 04/13/13 at 23:23:10 Other than you need to step down to a 90/90-19 or 80/90-19 front tire, looks great. And that is a monstrous license plate... :o |

Thank you very much. Tires are brand new from the dealer, so that will have to wait :) Yes license plates are very big here in Denmark... never seen them bigger anywere :-/ ...and mouting them one the side of the bike is illegal, so this is the way it has to be :) |
Title: Re: Bike is finished :D Post by jcstokes on 04/14/13 at 00:11:39 Your plate might make you more visible to drunk or distracted car drivers |

Well, as for the license plate we're in the same ship... here in Italy also big a.. license plate and no side mounting, how lame is that? >:( |

Title: Re: Bike is finished :D Post by raydawg on 04/14/13 at 07:27:20 I like it.....the color scheme gives it a fresh spring like feel. |

Thanks everyone, very much :) Good questions about the Gulf theme. First of all, I have always liked the color combination of baby blue and orange. On top of that, I remember playing with toy cars when I was a child... my favorite being a series of Gulf racing cars. So someway the "Gulf" has stayed with me always. I considered going for an "anonymous version" with a racing number instead, but eventually went for the logo (obviously). Paint job was made by an amateur airbrusher I found on a national forum. I designed the graphics though :) |
Title: Re: Bike is finished :D Post by SALB on 04/14/13 at 10:48:45 Looking Good! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I've always liked the Gulf color scheme as well, and I like the way you incorporated flames in the orange. |
Title: Re: Bike is finished :D Post by strang on 04/14/13 at 10:52:22 very cool - I liked those "hot wheels" cars as well. |

Title: Re: Bike is finished :D Post by dkruitz on 04/16/13 at 10:59:56 Very nice! What are the handlebars? I'd like to swap those onto mine. |
Title: Re: Bike is finished :D Post by Niki on 04/16/13 at 11:59:02 I love that paintjob! Also like that you have removed the struts on the rear fender. Kind of regret I didn't closed up the holes on mine prior to painting it. And yeah, our license plates are ridicolus large! :) Where in DK do you live? |
