Title: Charger systems
Post by ToesNose on 11/05/12 at 03:44:56

Hey guys with the winter coming, my wife having work trips lined up and being Mr. Mom with a three year old I highly doubt that I'll be getting alot of saddle time in this winter   :-?    That being said I'd still like to take a ride whenever possible without reinstalling a battery that was out and on a charger.  I was wondering what type of quick-connect battery connectors people are using and what type of "smart" charger I should be looking to get.  I've never had a bike that I didn't ride on a regular basis, but life changes    :)

The HF float charger works great for maintaining these batteries, and on sale most times for $595http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/battery/automatic-battery-float-charger-42292.html

In the pic is kind of a standard 12v plug that come w/ most the Schumacher and Tender and Minder float chargers.http://www.walmart.com/ip/13005742?adid=22222222227010256905&wmlspartner=wlpa&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=&wl3=13686569230&wl4=&wl5=pla&veh=sem
Just get the positive side of the pigtail connected to the positive of the battery, and drill a small hole in the frame to metal screw the neg to. Its easier than connecting to the negative on the battery.

I just hooked up the pig tails and that neg side is a PITA.

I have a 12v power outlet installed for my GPS, cell phone, etc. The charger/tender that I bought has a matching plug. Works for me.

This is the one I have:

Ditto.  I have a battery maintainer (float charger) that I use with the 12v power outlet installed on the bike.  I use a size N jack and plug because that is the same size as on the Gerbing heated jacket.

Here's a pic of the three jacks used to provide power to GPSs, jackets, etc.
