Well i bought my savage some years ago, and for the last 2 years i had it without starter. So after replacing starter and took to mechanic for service we found out that the air filter had a tape around it!!!! For what reason someone did this?
Anyway, i bought a new filter and now my bike doesnt go smooth, it does something like its out of gas as im riding.
Any opinions on what to do?

who ever owned it before you probably taped it to restrict some air flow. if its acting funky now that youve put a new one on it probably means your puling in too much air and not enough gas. adjust your air fuel mixter screw on the right side of the carb. ( opposite side of idle mix screw)

if that doesnt help you might have to rejet

OR PUT SOME TAPE ON THE NEW AIR FILTER

So you mean you didn't ride it for 2 years? The carb needs to be cleaned.

Did you look closely at the old filter? How much of it was covered?

All of it was covered with only just little space. The carb was cleaned.
RanDaMan is it safe to put tape?

If it was all covered but just a small space, I wouldnt do that again,

TRy putting it on prime & see how it works,

i wouldnt cover the air filter some people have reccomended it only as a test to see if your jetting is correct. putting tape on it will restrict some of the air flow, is there anything after market on the bike? is the airfilter stock?

Maybe it was running bad before you bought it because of a restriction in the carb. somewhere causing a lean condition. And maybe some one who wasn't real mechanical taped the air cleaner to choke it out some to richen it. I think a good carb. cleaning would be a good idea. Carl
