float bowl gaskets are sold out
a lot of orders came in quickly so quite a few of you will receive a $3 refund for the gasket
I will be ordering more parts but it will be a week or two before they get here.
If you want to wait for the gaskets send me a PM and include the name under which your Paypal was processed

Yes, JETSETS are  available but I'm out of the float bowl gaskets for now.

One of my stock S40's has a Emgo cone filter and the Emgo reverse cone megaphone muffler that came with the RYCA Cafe kit.  I pulled the baffle out and wrapped it with fresh material since it comes with VERY LITTLE fiberglass in it.  It is the pink stuff shown on the RYCA muffler video.
The current jetting is a #52.5 pilot @ 2 3/4 turns out (I need to go up to a #55 pilot and reset the pilot screw) and it runs well with some small pops on occasion.  The white spacer was replaced with the 3 washers and the main jet is a #152.5.
It runs strong and on level ground, sitting straight up, will hit 100 indicated.  On one occasion it went to 105 indicated, but after revisiting that section of interstate I believe it to have a slight downgrade which would account for the extra speed.  Due to the stock camshaft the power peaks at about 85mph in 5th.  It is still pulling beyond that but on a decreasing scale.  This particular engine seems to have a bit more power than most stock engines; one of those FLUKEs from the assembly line that just turns out a little better than average.
When I get around to pulling the carb again I will go to a 55 pilot, 2 washers on the needle & 155 main jet and see how it acts with that combo.

how much would a set be lancer? i am in the process of getting a cone filter and dyna muffler. and i really dont know what kind of main and jet to use im an hour away from vancouver so pretty close to sea level

Title: Re: JETSET SALE
Post by LANCER on 06/13/12 at 05:22:53

The set is just $20 for now
start with the 52.5 pilot jet if it is not there already (some newer models have it)
replace the white spacer with the 3 washers on the needle
150 main jet;

See how it runs on a test ride; if it feels ok then go longer to get a better feel for it in different conditions.
If it runs out of power before you get to wide open throttle ... ie, like no power/speed change after 3/4 throttle even though you turn it more.  Then you should try the 152.5 main jet.
Or if you start with the 152.5 and when at wide open throttle IF it bogs down then you know it is too big.  But if it runs strong and clean then you are good to go.

You can reuse the gasket if it is intact,  If it cracks or tears more than just a little then you should replace it.  I have reused some that were pretty badly broken but was able to maintain a continuous seal with some goopy stuff that can live with fuel, until I could get another.  I've made some from gasket material from Autozone before, but did replace that with a new one when available.

Yes, it works on all.  The carb is essentially unchanged since the first '86 model.  The jets have changed a bit over the years and the needle no longer has adjustment grooves for the clip, but its still the same carb.

I'm leaving this morning for the Dragon Ride and will be gone for a week.

I am behind; was gone for a while and some jets on backorder.
More jets ordered with express delivery so should have them tomorrow or or Thur.  That should enable me to catch up.
Your Paypal info did not include a shipping address.
Did you send me one separately ?
I have not found a msg or email with it.
I normally contact when a shipping address is not included; sometimes I miss making contact and my apology if so.

Start with the 52.5 pilot jet with the pilot screw 1 turn out, replace the white spacer with the 3 washers, and the 150 main jet.
Start and run the engine for 10 minutes or ride it a good 2 miles to be sure it is completely warmed up.
Adjust the pilot screw as needed for the highest idle speed, then reset the idle to 1100 rpm with the idle speed screw.

My pleasure guys.

A note to others who may have ordered stuff and have been waiting; my parts stock is low and I have ordered more but it's not here yet...for jets and carb kits.  The move to Oklahoma and all that's required here in settling a bit and planning for this next year in building and all does not leave much time, so please be patient.  I will get parts out but time is stretched.

Hello,  Just sent a PM regading a Jetset.

I was going to ask about tuning in the PM but perhaps other members may benefit from this public Q&A.

I have a 97 and live 300 feet above sea level.  I just did a blue collar boober kit install incuding their muffler.  After install this gave me a little more backfiring and I have been tinkering with the idle mix screw.  Still seems slightly more lean than when stock.

When I perform the pilot swaps I plan on also adding a chinese cone filter.  What would you recommend for a starting point with the pilots and spacer?

I've not used the BCB muffler but from others who have it appears the jetting for the pilot circuit is on the 52.5/55 line, so start with the 52.5 and with the pilot screw at 1.5 turns out.  Expect the need to go more on the rich side.  Do not go beyond 3 turns out if the engine continues to increase in rpm as you turn the needle out.  If/when you hit 3 turns out then go up to the 55 pilot and start the screw back at 1 turn out and tune again.
You are looking for the "sweet spot", the screw position where the engine is at the highest rpm, and if you turn the screw in either direction the rpm decreases.  Expect for this position to cover from 1/8 to 1/4 turn, or perhaps slightly more, with the engine not changing its sound/rpm.  Just set the screw in the middle of that range.
The pilot circuit (low throttle range) is set.

For the BCB muffler, which is fairly high flowing from the reports of it, will benefit from using all 3 washers in the JETSET to replace the white spacer on the needle.  There is not often difficulty with this "mid throttle range" and using 3 washers.  If there is then we can deal with it at the time.

For the main jet, start with 152.5 and see how it runs.
Find an area where you can open up the throttle to wide open in 3rd or 4th gear and allow it to go to redline.
If it pulls good and clean without stuttering and without a flat spot then it is usually good to go.  If there is erratic running or a flat spot then to up to the 155 main jet and make the run again at wide open throttle.  It must be absolutely wide open and at the throttle stop to be sure you have it there.  If it pulls strong without problems then you are good.  If it bogs down then the jet is too big, so back down to the 152.5.

Always make sure that the engine is fully warmed up by riding for several miles if possible before starting the jetting/tuning.  If you cannot ride it then let it idle for a good 10 minutes.
Those are the basics.

I'm currently short on a couple of the jet sizes but ordering resupply of those along with carb and other kit stuff, should take 7-10 days to get them.
Go ahead and process via Paypal (savage.s40@gmail.com) and as soon as the order comes in I will get it on the way.

For general info to all, I ship parts to anywhere in the world.
Of course, for international shipping the costs go up.   For the JETSETS add $5 to the $24.95 price; so a total of $29.95.

Expected some time within the next couple of weeks .... we hope.
The issue was with the Mikuni factory; they PAUSED all deliveries to their distributors while they did a top to bottom inventory to find exactly what they had.  Parts are SUPPOSED to be on the way from Japan soon.

I finally got some downtime to install my jetset.  I am doing some tank work so getting to the top of the carb and replacing the white spacer with the metal washers wasn't too hard.  My question is what is the easiest way to change out the main jet on bottom.  Am I wasting my time thinking about working with it in place or does the carb need to come off to properly switch the jets?

Poguy, pgambr, NJ Brit & anyone else needing JETSET's;  Paypal $24.95 to savage.s40@gmail.com and the day the jets hit my door I will bag'm & hang'm on the post outside for the Pony Express Rider to pick up when he rides though on the next round.
** If anyone is outside the US let me know up front because the shipping cost requires extra $$.

UPDATE:  Wow, amazingly fast turn-a-round ... found Paypal confirmation for NJ Brit already and it's just been a few minutes since my last post.  It's like a miracle !   ;D ;D ;D
Got confirmation for Capt Ron as well ... don't know who he is from this site yet ... it's all good though, it works for me.  ;D ;D

Looks like about $7 for First Class postage.
The last one I sent to Norway took about 2 weeks for delivery.
Paypal an even $32 for the JETSET & postage.

No, I missed it.  Just went back and read it now.
Will be looking for your letter in the mail.

Since you are using a Supertrapp, the number of discs you use on the muffler for the sound level you LIKE will determine in large part what size main jet you end up needing.  Besides changing sound level,  the number of discs also changes the amount of air flow, and changing air flow affects fuel requirements; more air needs more fuel.

I have one more question,

Do you, by any chance, have one? Could you ship it together with the jet kit?

Yes, I can send to Sweden.
Currently, I'm waiting on resupply again.
I've been running out as soon as I get them in; some sizes are in very short supply from Japan.
I MAY have a pilot screw...will have to check tomorrow at the barn shop.

I'd be interested in a set, but first can someone point me to a good guide on how to do this on a savage/S40? I've never re-jetted a carb so this should be quite the learning experience.

The previous owner put a freer flowing exhaust on, and it's a little laggy/lurchy in the low RPM 10-20mph zone. It sounds like a jetting problem to me, do you agree?

Howdy Z:  If possible, you want to do away with that straight pipe.  It is just real loud and hurts performance and makes tuning difficult.
An older HD dyna is a good cheap replacement, or you can buy new mufflers for more $$$$; just be sure to get a good one so you are not wasting your money.  The least expensive quality built mufflers I've found are from Cone Engineering.

http://www.coneeng.com/pdf/motorcycle/MC%20finsihed%20Mufflers%20PDF.pdf

In order to have a good smooth running engine that does not backfire you need to have a good muffler and an air-tight exhaust system.  Any air leaks at all with cause back firing and frustrate the heck out of you as you try to tune the carb, which will just not act right at all as long as there is an air leak in the system.  Fortunately, with just one cylinder to deal with we only have to ensure that the head-to-header, and header-to-muffler connections are air tight ... assuming that there are no other holes somewhere else that may be due to "rust-through" etc.

Of course, you also need to have a good air intake filtering system.
The stock air filter is good, but if you want to go with a pod type then be sure it is a good filter, is kept clean and sealed well to keep out crud.

So; good muffler, good air-tight exhaust system, jet/tune carb to match intake & exhaust system.
If you are in need of jets let me know.  Currently I have them.

Do you have washers for the needle ?  No extra cost for those.

Yep, basically all the same.  The 80's models (some, if not all) had a needle with 3 notches in it so the clip could be adjusted rice/lean, but other than that consider them the same.
The 80's models do have the white spacer like all the other models.

When it comes to the LS650, with exception to some electrical items that Suzuki changed over the years, or the 4 to 5 speed change in the tranny, or the starter gear change they made, you can ignore any of the model year restrictions that may be listed by after market manufacturers.  It just does not matter.

I need jets size slightly different from your jet sets and a float bowl gasket.

pilot #50 52.5
main #157.5 160

Can you PM me and let me know what you have and the price with shipping.  I live in California.  I am unable to PM you due to my lack of posts. Thanks.

If you let me know right away, I can order the 157.5 main jet with my next order; should have it in about 10 days.
Gaskets ? ? ? will just have to wait and see if they are available yet; stuff is getting hard to get.  Yea, it's crazy.
I do want to order the 157.5 main jet.  I already send the payment for the other 3 jets.  Since the wait is only 10 days, I can wait for you to send them all in one package.  Just let me know what is the additional cost and I will send the second payment.
Okie dokie, will do
Have the 157.5 main jet arrive yet?
Was ordering parts Thursday and checked on this; the 157.5 main jets are still on back order and expected to come in from Japan the first week of July.  Yea.  Crazy.
Did the shipment from Japan ever came? I have been itching to ride for a while now.

Got my jets installed along with the 3 washers for the white spacer. Bike runs absolutely great!!! Thanks!

BTW for what it's worth the screws on top and inside the carb were no match for my DeWalt 12v max impact driver. It busted them loose with no problems or scaring or even a hint of stripping. If you have an impact gun  that you can put a phillips bit on I highly recommend using it.

LOL  Yep, on the power side I have a Sears Craftsman 19.2V lithium-ion powered impact driver that works quite nicely. I do use the little hand driver on the 2 tiny screws down inside of the slide though, in order to maintain more delicate control.   ;)

The jets are Mikuni jets, same as the manufacturer of the carb.
Are they as good as Dynojet ?
As far as I could tell the jets that Dynojet makes seem to be of decent quality.  However, the numbering system that Dynojet uses is different than the one that Mikuni uses and that makes it difficult when trying to jet/tune if you need to change from a Mikuni jet to a Dynojet jet, or visa-versa.  Apples and oranges thing.  For that reason alone I stick with Mikuni jets and keep life as simple as possible.

Yes, Paypal $29.95 to savage.s40@gmail.com and I will get them on the way.  Shipping is included for US addresses.  If you are outside the US then let me know where you are first because additional shipping cost will apply.

I saw a shop near me also has a 6Sigma kit available. It has mostly the same stuff but it also has some Springs and needles as well. Are these things important at all or just extra junk?
I don't want to have to keep moding my carb so I want to make sure I do what is best the first time around, I don't mean it as any offence.

Also, if I didn't want the 14* and 150 mains would the price still be the same?
I'm pretty sure I want to do a 52.5 pilot and 152.5 main.

Thanks for your help

I had 3 addresses on my paypal for some reason, 2 of which where old addresses. The Port Saint Lucy one should have been the primary but I didn't get the jets yet so maybe they where sent to one of the others?

It was the 9th St address in Daytona that was on your Paypal and that is where the package went.

Hi Lancer,

I am planning on installing a Dyna muffler I bought, and opening up the air box a bit once my bike is broken in.  I would like to order a jet set from you.

What would be the procedure to do that in regards to ordering the jet set?

Elevation is 2000' at home and at times when driving the max is 5000'.  I would like to tune for around 3000'.

Thanks

Just Paypal $29.95 to savage.s40@gmail.com or I can send you an invoice to your email if you wish to use a credit or debit account instead.  It is still processed through the Paypal system either way for security.

You don't need to punch holes in the air box, that is not a bottle neck for air flow.  For your altitude you could start with a #50 pilot, #150 main jet, and just 2 washers on the needle.   Set the pilot screw @ 1.5 turns out to begin and adjust as needed.   The engine NEEDS to be FULLY warmed up...like after riding a few miles or idling for 10 minutes BEFORE tuning.   See how it responds and go from there.

Okie dokie, If you are Chris from across the pond then I got it.
If not, then we have an issue somewhere.

Also, please note that the stock of #50 pilot jets is held up waiting for Mikuni Japan to deliver them to Mikuni America, and then to my supplier.
It could be 2-3 more weeks yet.  Hopefully when we get back from the Dragon Run they will be available.

A note to everyone else too, is that I am out of all jets as of now.  After shipping the to the dude above I will be out until further notice.

That's fine, you will be on the "short" waiting list.
There are a few assorted jets coming now but not complete sets.
There's almost enough #50 pilots to catch up with what I owe folks right now.
I did get a fair number of gaskets though.
Still waiting for the bigger supply to arrive.

Hey Lancer! I have an 86 savage that I picked up in not running condition last summer and have been slowly rebuilding.  My question is it came with a pod air filter and a screaming eagle muffler on it, it has the 155 main jet already which I think is stock for the 86 model year. As far as I can tell everything else is stock on it. I am switching the muffler out with a dyna unit. Do you think I will need to change the Jets for this set up? It seems the 155 is the biggest anyone uses on this bike but there are very few of the 86s left out here.  :)   I have never heard it run yet so I don't have a baseline on how it runs yet, hope to have it running in the next week or two. Just wanted to get the carb set up close before I put it on. Thanks for your help! ;D

155 should be fine with a dyna muff.  also depends on if it still has the center block in the muff.
make sure your pod filter doesn't block the eyebrow inlet at the top of the carb.
and you'd be better off with an inlet extension of at least 4" between the carb and filter.

Hello Lancer,
Hope you are doing well. Also hope to see you at the 3 Twisted Sisters ride next year. Yes, let's all do it. ;D ;D ;D

Well, I think I am ready to play with the carb. I have the 06 S40 on I which I put an HD muffler just before the Dragon ride. The motor seems to be running well but a couple of weeks ago I opened it, got to 80 and that was it. I've had it to 85 before with still some throttle available. Has stock air filter and I have not touched the carb. Has just over 18k miles on it.

I want to go with a performance air filter (possibly K&N standard replacement or some pod air filter) and rejet fot best overall performance. What do you recommend for the jets and for the air filter? Thanks.

For a stock engine with K&N and an HD muffler, a 52.5 pilot and 152.5 main jet should work for you.  When my '09 was stock, and with an HD and pod filter, I was running the 52.5/152.5 combo and it worked quite well.  My pilot screw was set at about 2 1/2 turns out though.  I could have swapped out the 52.5 for the 55 pilot jet and that would have brought the pilot screw setting down to about 1 3/4 turns out, but the end result would have been the same.  I just never bothered to make the change until I removed the stock camshaft in favor of a Performance Camshaft.  At that point it was needed and I did install a 55/155 set.
By the way, I had also replaced the white spacer with the 3 washers back at the beginning.

Please let me know how much and how to send it to you as I think I will try to do some major maintenance (check valves, change spark plug, maybe change petcock, K&N air filter, etc) on the bike soon and might as well get it all done at the same time. Hey there! I have a 1998 Suzuki savage Ls 650. I am in the process of bobbing it out right now. I also bought the fishtail exhaust to go to a straight pipe set up. Now what is your recommendation for everything with re-jetting with sizes and all?  The carb is stock to me knowledge.

Title: Re: JETSETS
Post by springman on 09/10/15 at 11:46:16

I am almost scared to ask this after having just read oldfeller'e post regarding his dirty air filter. But here goes. The K&N air filter for the air box is around $60, Emgo pod air filter is around $10-12, and the Uni 2 stage foam pod filter is around $18. Which of the less expensive options would provide the best overall performance boost with the rejetting of the carb? Also Ramair and Uni both sell the filter media that I could adapt to an old filter frame.

I put an HD muffler on the bike just recently but the carburetor remains untouched. What say you, Savages????

I've never personally used a fishtail muffler, but it is my understanding that they offer a fairly decent amount of back pressure.  That said, start with the standard 52.5 pilot & 152.5 main jet, with the 3 washers in place of the white spacer, and the pilot screw set at 1.5 turns out.
This is a typical basic setup and it is a pretty good starting point.

The Uni pod foam filter is your best choice for the least $$.

Actually it's not a muffler it's a straight pipe so I'm assuming that would change things!

When you said "fishtail exhaust" I assumed you meant it was a muffler.
If it is all just a straight pipe then it DOES  change things.
You will be hard pressed to get the jetting/tuning sorted out with a straight pipe.  A straight pipe is basically just a setup for high speed running, tuning wise.  It just does not tune well.
You can get some quality mufflers that are pretty slim & trim and still be able to jet & tune them.
But this is your build, and if you really want a straight pipe just be aware of the jetting/tuning difficulties you will encounter.
That said, I would still start with the 52.5/152.5+3 combo.
The straight pipe is essentially an extended header, and total length makes a difference.  You will find most headers are about30- 32" in length.  There is a reason for that.  Adding that same amount in a straight pipe would probably yield your best result.  3/4 or 1/2 of that amount would be your next best bet.
Just something to think about.

Hey Lancer. This is a late response, but thanks again for the jet set and the quick mailing of the backed up #50 pilot jet.

I just wanted to let you know, if you weren't already aware, that the gasket you mailed out wasn't cut correctly. The hole for the small brass tube to stick through was slightly off; meaning the gasket wouldn't fit properly. If the tube was slipped through the hole, the gasket was diagonal. If the gasket was placed properly, the tube wasn't even close to making it into the hole. Other than that, everything was perfect.

Not a big issue, I just cut more space on the hole to fit the tube and things worked out fine. No obstructions or important areas not sealed. Obviously I can't say if this was an issue unique to myself; but still something I thought you might want to be aware of.

Not a big issue, I just cut more space on the hole to fit the tube and things worked out fine. No obstructions or important areas not sealed. Obviously I can't say if this was an issue unique to myself; but still something I thought you might want to be aware of.

I have had 2 others tell me they had a fitment issue as well, except that theirs was just slightly off for the tube hole; just half a hole space over.

After the first one I checked my gaskets against the carb bodies I have and they fit mine.
It's weird, there is only one part number for all of the model years in my parts catalog.

Would like to order the JETSETS, can you let me know how much with shipping to MO, also what quicker shipping would be and your thoughts on starting with the 52.5/152.5 setup with a setup that is that open?

Cheers,

The $29.95 price includes shipping within the U.S.
It usually only takes 3 days to arrive from the time I send it so there is no point in spending the money to try to get it there faster.
For a starting point with the  filter and RYCA muffler, you can go with the 52.5/152.5 combo or bump it to 55/155, which is a bit closer to what you may need.  When I jetted my stock S40 I started with 52.5/152.5 and had the pilot screw ended up at 2 1/2-2 3/4 turns out and the 152.5 worked just fine for it.  I did change it a couple of years later to 55/155 and the pilot screw setting was about 2 turns out and there was no noticeable performance improvement on the top end.
The midrange was set up with the 3 washers in place of the white spacer on the needle, and that did not change.
Other than the muffler and jet/tuning change, this was a totally stock engine.  I had it up to 105 indicated on the speedo on several occasions.
This particular engine is a bit stronger than your average LS650 engine.

Hi Lancer, new to the forum, new to riding, new to my Savage (bought 3 weeks ago). Have been slowly giving her some TLC (oil and filter change, air filter, brake fluids and pads etc.). Just replaced the stock muffler with a Jardine and from what I understand, despite it running OK rejetting should bring out optimum performance.

2 questions, first are you still able to provide the JETSET parts to do the rejet?  and second...if you have any advice on what combination of jets would be best used with this muffler? Savage is a 1999.

All help would be greatly appreciated and if you are able to still supply the parts I will be PayPal'ing you the dough immediately.

The engine is jetted lean from the factory and with a Jardine it will be even leaner.  Some folks with a Jardine have a #52.5 pilot and others #55, and for main jets most seem to use the #155, though a few #152.5.
I suggest the #52.5 pilot and #155 main jet.
Also, you should replace the white plastic spacer on the needle with the 3 washers in the JETSET.
THe price is $29.95 including shipping and you can PayPal to savage.s40@gmail.com.

Title: Re: JETSETS
Post by verslagen1 on 04/15/17 at 07:54:22

the pilot is shaped differently than the main and there's a number on each one.

Title: Re: JETSETS
Post by Tpot on 04/15/17 at 11:15:44

The numbers on the main jet don't say if its a 150 or 152.5

Title: Re: JETSETS
Post by LANCER on 04/15/17 at 12:03:16

The number on the main jet is on the big flat face, with the screw driver slot.  It is not unusual for the numbers to be hard to see, they are not always stamped in real well.  The use of a magnifier is needed at times. Oh yea.  ;D  I use a X10 jewelers magnifier.

The pilot jet is on the side of the shaft and just under the threads.
You will need to rotate the jet slightly when reading the numbers.

Older carbs had 47.7 pilot and 155 main jets.
Newer carbs had 52.5 pilot and 145 main jets.
Of course California, being squirrelly, has different sets; 47.5 pilot and 125 main jets.
You may find some with other jets if previous owners have messed with them.  You may even find some strange looking and numbered jets if a previous owner put in a set of jets from a Dynojet kit.

Start with 52.5 pilot & 152.5 main jets.  I have a newly installed MAC system on my '09 as well but due to electrical issues have not been able to test ride it so do not have specific recommendations yet.

So, stocker with a Dyna muffler (helping someone out).
What's a good guess for the jet sizes?
thanks

Typically, 52.5 pilot & 152.5 main, with 3 washers replacing the white spacer.  That works for quite a few.  Some may run 50/150 with 2 washers, and also combinations thereof.
It is a mixed bag though and good tuning technique is required to make it sing.

2001 stock savage with sportster muffler.
idles but dies upon acceleration.
Should a Jet set fix this problem???
If so, do you have any available? will order immediately.

Suggestion on sizes?

For a stocker with a sporty muffler you will likely need 52.5 pilot & 152.5 main jet, and 3 washers in place of the white spacer.  Then tune for highest rpm at idle with the pilot screw.
As for the issue you are dealing with now, the engine dieing on acceleration.  You did not say what jets are in the carb now.  This problem could be because a previous owner put some crazy jets in the carb, or more likely is that there is some crud blocking one or more of the tiny passageways in the carb.  I would pull the carb and totally disassemble and clean everything, making sure each and every passageway is clear.  Some are so tiny that they are hard to see.  The smallest is in the bowl, it is the little brass tube hangine down from the carb body.  There is a hole in the very end and 2 more, one on each side.  Then there are 4 on the sides of the needle jet.  There are several in the carb body itself.
They must be clean.
Use lots of carb cleaner and some very small/tiny wires to insure they flow.

Add $12  to the $29.95 price for the set, so $41.95 total.
That is for First Class shipping.
If you want Priority it is $25 extra.

Yep, got it.  thank you.
The package is in the box waiting for the mailman tomorrow.
You should have it by Monday at the latest.
If your engine is stock and with a stock muffler, then go with the 52.5 pilot and 150 main.  If a stock engine and a Dyna/Sportster muffler or something similar then use a 152.5 main jet.
Set your pilot screw at 1.5 turns out to begin with and tune from there to find the highest rpm, then adjust with the idle screw for 1100 rpm idle speed.  Be sure the engine is completely warm when adjusting the pilot screw, which requires a ride of a couple of miles to get it really warmed up.  Many folks like to reduce the idle rpm down to about 900 or so before adjusting the pilot screw, which makes it easier to hear the increase in rpm.  Of course, if you have a tack then that makes it easier.

A good slightly used HD Dyna/Sportster muffler will work MUCH  better for you than the Emgo, they are next to worthless in my opinion.  I've had a couple of them and tried to make them work with extra packing and assorted baffles but it was an exercise in frustration.  That's been my experience with them anyway.  The HD's are plentifull and cheap and just work well.
If you are interested in other types I like Cone Engineering a lot.  They make all stainless in a variety of shapes and sizes, with assorted baffle choices and priced from $120-160.  Virtually any other quality brand name will run $250-400.  Take a look at their website.

That should work just fine.
The only muffler I have for sale right now is a Hard Krome muffler I picked up a while back.  It is loud and has a really long pipe section on the front end, being made originally for one of the big HD's.  It has really good chrome.  The pipe section is a good 3' long so it can be cut to any desired length.  It has the typical 1.75" ID in the pipe.  I think shipping cost would be in the $30-40 range, maybe less if you wanted the pipe portion cut down before shipping.  The price I would want is $100 + shipping.
I have some photos at home I can send but that will not be until Apr. 8
when we get back home.

Title: Re: JETSETS
Post by LANCER on 04/28/18 at 21:15:56

A Jardine supplies little to no back pressure so a lot of air will be going out the exhaust, and a K&N will contribute a bit too.  You will probably be looking at a #55 pilot and a 155 main jet being needed, and should consider filing the white spacer on the jet needle in half or just replace it with some washers.  Then readjust the pilot screw and reset the idle speed screw.

Hey Lancer can you PM me, I'm about to become an owner of a 2016 s40 and wanted to get one of your rejet kits. Im based in Sydney, Australia, how much will it be all up?

I will be operating the bike near the coast at sea level and have a few extra questions.

Do you do sell cone filters that will fit without the need to do any fabrication or move the battery box? or can you recommend one?

If I keep the stock air filter/box and stock exhaust what jet / spacer setup do you recommend to start with?

If i keep the stock exhaust but replace the airbox with a cone filter, what jet / spacer setup do you recommend to start with?

Im not sure what the initial setup of the jets will be but im fairly certain there is a plastic tube inside the large spring that is also fitted within the carb which acts as a throttle limiter for learners / emission control that ill have to remove, ill keep you posted when i find out.

Thanks

Chris

I just got in a spotless Harley Dyna muffler and I'm planning on picking up a K&N replacement filter. I'm located 1,500 feet above sea level. What jet combination would you recommend for this setup? I'm not wanting to do anything wild, just get the engine breathing properly the way it should be instead of the lean stock setup. I can bounce you out a Paypal payment ASAP!

Start with #50 pilot and #150 main jets wih 3 washers in place of the white spacer on the needle.
You need to run your bike for a few miles before final tuning to insure it is completely warm.
$30 for the JETSET, includes shipping
I also have a set of stainless Allen Head screws for the stock carb 4 top, 4 bottom & 3 for the tiny triangular cover on the right side.
Regular $15 but just $10 if added to the JETSET.

Hello Mr. Lancer. I'd like to purchase a jet set, gasket, and possibly screw set from you to correct the lean status of my new to me '96. I'd have PM'd you, but I'm new here. :)

How much would you recommend the screws? I've seen people complain about the ones on the carb. And what would my total be?

Thank you!

Howdy

The JETSET is $30 and it does include the floatbowl gasket.
The Screw Set is all stainless steel, cost is $15 if purchased separately or if with the JETSET is just $10.
So total for both is just $40, and shipping is included if within the US.
For international shipping the cost is more of course and determined by the country of destination.

Fantastic! $40 from Joey sent to you. I appreciate it.

Would you have a recommendation where to start with a Ryca flat pod filter, and a freer flowing exhaust? Still looking into what exhaust specifically, but it will be a cheaper shorty exhaust off of amazon or ebay, or even stock exhaust for now.

In LA, so my elevation is between 300-800ft depending what part of the valley I'm in.

With an all stock engine start with the #50 pilot and #150 main jet, 2 washers in place of the white spacer.  Be careful when removing the 2 tiny screws in the slide to remove the white spacer.  They are typically pretty tight and can be striped, so get a real good fitting screwdriver and tap with a hammer to loses them.  I use a small impact driver with the slide mounted on a vice with the needle of the slide between the jaws and holding it gently.  This gives a good solid base to work on and makes the removal a bit easier.
If you have an old desktop computer box some of the tiny screws inside can be used to replace the softer stock screws holding the needle.  They are made of much better metal and don’t get torn up.
I think the little filter in the RYCA kit is too small for our engine if you want it to run best.  I think they choose it because it fit the space better for their purpose.  It is “ok” but not the best.  I like the Uni filter, it performs best of other types, is very cost effective, being foam it is easier to install and will conform to the space, and has two layers with the outside layer being removable.  Cost is $20 compared to $50 for a K&N pod.
I use a Cone Engineering muffler on my Savage, REX.
They are all stainless steel, assorted shapes, sizes, choice of baffling or none, and cost an average of $150.
Just some thoughts to consider now or later.

That's all sound advice. I was actually considering a pk92(?) Uni filter, but wasnt sure if the slightly smaller flange would be detrimental. I appreciate your help greatly, sir.

If the pk92 has the correct inside diameter on the flange it will work.
The stock carb has a 57mm OD on the filter side to fit a 57mm ID flange on the filter.  I just don't have those in stock, I carry the 63mm ID filters for the VM carbs.

I just wanted to give a recommendation for Lancer's jet kit.  I recently sent messages back and forth with him and he put together a re-jet kit along with a Dial-A-Jet kit for my wife's Savage.  I installed it about a month ago but with the colder weather I've had only a few trips with these parts.  Well the bike fires right up without nearly as much choke and I can actually completely remove the choke after a couple minutes or a mile.  Before it seemed I had to leave the choke on forever to keep it running right.  Power has gone up a noticeable amount.  Throttle response is instant and smooth.  The first time I went full throttle and shifted into 2nd gear the tire bounced up off the road as I let out the clutch and reopened the throttle!  I don't know if it would do that before because I never tried but I wasn't trying that time either.  I didn't understand what all the "need" was for steeper gearing but after the jetting I kept looking for another gear on the highway as the engine just wanted to pull up without being forced.  I can't tell you about mileage because the bike hasn't been used long enough to establish a baseline but it runs like a champ.

Thanks for a great product.
Vernon

Good news !
Have you had opportunity to fine tune a little ?

Title: Re: JETSETS
Post by Mechaniac on 02/11/19 at 10:10:31

When I had it on the bench the float was factory set way high so I adjusted it to spec.  The clear fuel supply hose on the Dial-A-Jet allows for level checking at any time and it's now right below the gasket level.  I had the idle screw 2.5 turns out and it started and ran but once I got time to get it hot it needed about another 3/4 turn to get perfect.  I haven't tried adjusting the Dial-A-Jet yet, if it improves much I'll be shocked and pleased.  Runs really nice and strong.

At 2.5 turns out the pilot ideally needs to go up one size already, but
since you said it needed to go out 3/4 more that would call for another step up one more size.  So 2 total & set the pilot screw back to 1.5 turns out and start the tune process again.
Get the low & mid range dialed in before adjusting the high range with the DAJ.  It will save time and effort.

Mr X  I presume ? :))

First Class USPS will add $15 to the cost, $30+ $15 = $45

Takes about 10-14 days.

If you want it any quicker then $37 is the least and that will take 5-10 days.

What do you want to do ?

I've purchased a dyna muffler and thought it'd be smart to rejet so it doesn't lean out, I think it already needs a bit more fuel. 110m above sea level if that makes a difference too.
