Title: Belt tension, (video)...
Post by Serowbot on 04/25/12 at 17:55:22

Note: Please post questions in the Rubberside or PM me...

The factory tension gauge that's included in the toolkit is useless... If you adjust with it, your belt will be too tight...
(too tight, and the belt will interfere proper working of swingarm and suspension).

Use this 90' degree twist method to check tension...

Twist with the thumb and fingers,... the belt should turn 90' to vertical quite easily...
See video... ;)...

Quote:
To adjust your belt,... loosen the rear wheel axle,(just loose, don't remove the nuts completely)... and use the two adjusters... (They are sticking rearward on both sides of the axle)...(unlock the locking nut, and turn the bolt)...
Adjust both sides the same number of turns... to maintain wheel alignment... go in and out 1/4 turn or less at a time, (a little goes a long way)...
When yer' done... tighten both locknuts back down,.. and re-tighten the axle nuts... (don't forget this part... :-?)...

If it goes more than 90 degrees does it need to be tightened?

Too much more, and yeah, I'd tighten it...

Of course, a gorilla grip twist will do more than a firm finger twist...
So,... use yer' best judgement...

Great video,'Bot. Thanks. Just checked mine, and it's too tight.

But who builds these things, cranky sumo wrestlers? The belt's tight, but the axle nut's a whole lot tighter. As in T I G H T! Before I damage something in a fit of violent pique, is there something else I need to know? Wrench and hammer taps ain't gittin' it done.

Wrench on the big nut,... at 10 o'clock... and stand on it...

Easy as toast... ;)...

Thanks for the belt adjustment tip. After I installed my bobber fender, I tightened mine way too tight. After adjusting the belt using your method. My belt & pulleys are whisper quiet! Thanks 8-)
