Title: Locking quick pins for the seat
Post by verslagen1 on 02/04/12 at 14:18:43

Pins for the seat are no longer available, other custom sizes maybe available... ask.
Here are the pins I have on hand...

I recommend either the short lever or the ring handle types.  Not much room for the others.
These are zinc plated and are OLD stock, the plating is a bit tarnished.

push/pull to unlock, makes it easy to insert, just push and the ball retracts, then push it home.

The mod is simple, drill thru each weld nut in each bracket with a 1/4" drill.
Install the seat just like before, but instead of screwing a bolt in place, you simply stick the pin in.

It takes 1/2" grip to engage the pins in all 3 positions.
For the rear seat location, either drill thru the inner fender (guard the tire) or grind the end of the pin to fit.

And the ring handle is the kind I used for my harlet seat mod.
For that one, I bent the seat bracket up a little and drilled thru the frame.  And the pin goes into the frame to lock.  I also have these to use with the stock seat bracket mod.

Please email or pm me as to availability.  For any custom order, please contact me before Saturday.  Or I won't be able to get your order till the following week.

So let me know what you want...
$20 a pair including shipping.
$25 for three including shipping.

Paypal or money order,  $5 off for money orders or cash.

I can't recommend these highly enough. Since you have to pull the seat to do just about anything to this bike they are a real time saver. I wired mine to the seat with aircraft wire so all I have to do is pull on the wire to pull the pins. It takes me 5 seconds to pull the seat now. I bought the ones on the far right.

Rat,

I have #4 and they work really good.

There is an "S" hook that I removed.

#1 and #5 have what looks like a 3/4" - 1" grip length. ???

but, #4 looks like a 1/2" grip length, which is what you suggested for our bikes, right?

1/2" or more is what you need to fit in the seat.
longer is ok.

I use a small piece of fishing line in the event one might vibrate off.  No problems and you can't see it as well.  [smiley=thumbup.gif]

Best regards,

Do these work after the front of the seat is lifted?

Since bolts still work after the lift, I expect the pins will too.

Versy, not trying to hijack your thread rather offer an option for your repertoire of parts.

For those that want a quick release, sort-of, and don't want to permanently drill out the threads why not get a couple of these little guys...of course at the right length and thread size. May have a propensity to wiggle loose after a lot of riding unless you use a good lock washer or rubber washer?

If I decide to get a couple and try them out I'll share my results.

As an FYI.   I have a set of #5 and they make life a lot easier when you're working on the bike doing anything that requires pulling the seat off and on....Nice aggravation saving little critters.

Isn't there a latch size that won't require to drill out the threads ?

I sincerely would rather not do away with the threads - you never know...

Due to waning supplies, I'm gonna have to discontinue selling these.
I have some odd ball lengths, just nothing in the preferred 1/2" to 5/8" grip that's required for the seat.
If you need a different size, I can see if anything is available for you.

That is super unfortunate. I do a lot of camping and was hoping for some pins so I could use my saddle while camping. :/

I haven't been back to the recycler since he ran out of the size I sell.
There are more, they're just not the right size.
We use Ř1/4"x1/2" to 5/8" grip.  anything else is too short or too long.

Cool. McmAster Carr does have them, but they are pricey. Will these work?https://www.mcmaster.com/pins/knob-grip-locking-quick-release-pins/

what you're looking for is 1/4" diameter and a minimum of 1/2" grip for the 2 seat bolts.
anywhere else is up to you.

I can confirm, the 1/4" x 1/2" from the above link works very good. Very happy with the choice and quick removal of the seat.

This does require that you drill out the threads by a 1/4" drill.
