Machined or hand drilled?

Title: Re: DRILLED BRAKE ROTOR SERVICE
Post by verslagen1 on 01/30/12 at 18:45:24

Pilot holes drilled by cnc, then final size by drill press.

So basically, if you want a custom design and provide the dim's, I can do it.

If done properly this can reduce braking heat and issues in water, dirt, and pad life. Mostly done in racing so unless you are light to light racing everywhere you go, this is pretty much for looks. A great look. I need to see if i can slide mine through the VF4 in my shop someday hehehehehe

I can't believe what a great job you did on my disc, Sir. Very much appreciated! When I finally get my bike in my hands; hopefully next month, I'll try to get some really good pictures.

WORTH EVERY RED CENT!!

Hi, long time no see :)

I'd like to ask if you work on your own rotor or if I have to send you mine...

...I'd rather not ride without my front brake while the job is done...  :-X

Here's the 3-2 pattern...
http://www.savageriders.com/verslagen/Disk/disk3-2.jpg

The 4x pattern looked very spare, so this will be limited to the 8x pattern.

Title: Re: DRILLED BRAKE ROTOR SERVICE
Post by mpescatori on 10/20/16 at 10:55:43

Nice...

Having seen your previous 5-hole pattern, which is slanted, I initially thought the 3-2 pattern was going to be slanted too.

Looks nice though.

Have you toyed on PC with a slanted 3-2 (or 4-3) pattern ? :)

Title: Re: DRILLED BRAKE ROTOR SERVICE
Post by verslagen1 on 10/20/16 at 11:33:48

The 3/16 hole size evenly divides the pad into 5 holes with no overlap.

I want to keep the inside hole at the spoke location to minimize strength issues that may arise.

If you have any pic's of what you're thinking of... send them to me.

Title: Re: DRILLED BRAKE ROTOR SERVICE
Post by mpescatori on 10/22/16 at 00:48:43

Aaah, YES !  :)  To me, personally, this looks much more businesslike  :)

Just make sure the top hole of the three-tiered set is not too close to the rim of the rotor -  it becomes fragile in case of a hard squeeze / panic stop.

I'll have one of those, please  8-) And a Diet Cola...  ;D ;D ;D

Title: Re: DRILLED BRAKE ROTOR SERVICE
Post by verslagen1 on 10/22/16 at 08:34:45

Every hole is the same diameter and at the same radius as the swoop pattern.
Just the angular position is different.

No one has commented about any noise so I don't expect this will either.

Title: Re: DRILLED BRAKE ROTOR SERVICE
Post by mpescatori on 10/22/16 at 09:48:45

Excellent.

When I mentioned the holes, I meant my concern that a hole drilled too close to the rim might make the rim itself fragile.

But then, I guess you are much more into these things than me  ;)

Yup, I'll have one, with fries and a Diet Cola  :D

Where did you get your braided line?  Mine's stock rubber from '08 and I'm thinking of replacing it.  Will need standard length for my model, nothing odd.

Post by verslagen1 on 11/02/16 at 10:21:20

I rode it this morning, didn't notice any noises.
I think it's good to go.

This one's on one of the thinner disks I had but still over the wear limit.
I got a couple that are closer to 4.4mm or over that I'll be drilling for you.

Hi all,

this is to bump Verslagen's drilled rotor service.

I fitted mine last summer and the bike brakes much much better now, and no issues in the rain!
Being a 24/7 rider, when it rains... who cares, rain gear and go!
And the drilled rotor is much better than the OEM smooth rotor!

8-)
