Title: Just received a Blinc M1 Bluetooth adapter and....
Post by webhead on 05/19/11 at 21:06:55

I am returning it. There is a constant annoying buzzing in my ear. Very distracting plus the sound is totally shot on the highway or speeds above 50 mph. Shame though. I had high hopes for it.

Anyone have any other options? They have this unit built into some vcan helmets. The vcan helmets are cool. They come with flip up sun visors built into the helmet. I wear glasses and this is a great idea but I don't know about the safety rating of the helmet itself.

Any thoughts? Thanks everyone.

Having the bluetooth built in is scary.  It it breaks, what do you do?  If you drop the helmet?

I use a Camos add on unit:

Mine is the BTS200.  It's mounted on an HJC Modular helmet.
Excellent sound.

If I ever need another one, I'm looking hard at this:

Yes I feel the same way. Its like the old answering machine phone combo. If the answering machine or the phone breaks it's useless.

Thanks I'll check it out.

if you are using the bike as power source you may need to filter the circuit...

Nope. I'm not using the bike as the power source but that's a good question.

I've heard good things about the Scala system and I believe BabyHog has a set and likes them.

I have had a set of bluetooth coms on the back of the shopping list for a while. The sena SMH-10 is top on the list, i have never seen a really bad review on it and most reviews are very good ones. The Scala G4 is in the sceond spot.

I have a Scala and it works ok. Can answer phone calls and converse briefly. I wouldn't want to have a long phone call with it. Too darn distracting and the sound is ok but not great. I like the FM radio. Nice to listen to on the commute to and from work. You can plug in an MP3 player into it too but haven't tried that yet. Haven't had a chance to try the intercom featue either.

Great answers everyone! This is why I prefer the boards than the opinions of others like cnet and such. Cnet is good but I rather hear it from "real" people who "actually" have had time with the product.

Keep it coming!

The one that he bought last night is different than the one that is there today. I think they change the sale every day.

Wow, I see that one too EJID, let us know how it works out.  Yours too webhead!

I still love my Scala Rider.  Finally used it to answer a phone call the other day.  He could hear me fine, but I couldn't hear him as well.  Seems it would be the other way around, but it wasn't.  Of course it was better while I was going slower, but it got the job done for the moment.  The radio is great, and you can program up to 5 stations and its not too hard to change stations or scan for a new station.  I guess it all depends on what your priorities are, but I'm happy with it.

The one that is there now is not for your motorcycle. It's just a regular bluetooth but it is a good one if you need one.

I didn't order one, I just added it to my cart to see what the shipping charge would be.

Webhead, what one did you end up getting?

I bought a Scala three years ago. First year it was great, everything woked well, phone, radio and inercom. Last year intercom communications were "fuzzy". It was difficult for me and my wife to understand what was being said. This year intercom doesn't work at all. Not very happy with the Scala system!

The parrot sk4000.  It has gotten good reviews.

Ok, I finally got to test my new bluetooth headset for the bike. I purchased the parrot SK4000 for $35 on the 1saleaday website. All I can say is awesome! I have a iphone 4 and my navigon gps app works great with it. Phone calls are crystal clear and the person on the other end said they  can hear me fine. The fastest I was going was 60 mph with no problems.

The features of this thing is unbelievable. It has a fm radio built in to it. YOu can choose mono or stereo sound or which side you want to hear from or just both. It syncs with your phonebook and has voice recognition which works good but you have to speak clearly. You can hook up your ipod or other music player via  a cable provided.

Now the Blinc had similar features but what made me turn to this one was it came with wireless handlebar controls. I rather have to click on my handlebars than reach up and grab my helmet. You can select whatever you have connected to it. There is a specialized button for it.

The only thing that I don't like is how the handlebar controls get in the way of the horn and turn signals. If you have big hands, like me, you are losing valuable real estate on the grip especially with the clutch. It's not annoying but I don't like taking risks like that especially with the clutch handle. So I place it to the right of the controls. Off the grip for now. I'm sure they make bigger grips out there. If anyone knows please chime in.

I am very happy with it. The blinc was a pain. Constant buzzing during calls and even at idle. I had nothing but problems.

The helmet install took 10 minutes with the parrot. I have a full face helmet. They give you plenty of wire for the speakers in the helmet.

Hope this helps everyone out.

Keith  :)

A little update on what I said about the handlebar controls. I dipped the contol down a little further and now I can get to the horn and turn signals with no problem.

I just recently got a Jardine slip on and it is LOUD! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to use the parrot but after making a couple of calls and receiving them, it works fine, even when accelerating.   ;)
