Here in the Columbus, Ohio area we've had FOUR fatal motorcycle involved accidents in the past week.

We see this every spring during the first nice weather days. Rusty riders from the winter layoff, and car drivers not yet used to seeing motorcycles sharing the road.

For those of you in similar climate areas, please be careful out there.

That's horrible Jerry. Yes, I its that time of year here too. Last Sunday, we had an exceptionally beautiful day. Hubby and I rode for several hours and saw so many bikes, I almost got tired of waving. The best thing about it was there were so many of us out, surely more car drivers noticed! At least I hope so.

This line of reasoning actually makes a lot of sense,

Going to see more motorcycles on the road as gas prices keep going up. I would think a lot will be newbikers just learning to ride to save some money. Gotta watch out for them.

I would like to think that more
people are getting used to more
mc's on the road here. However
it seems each year, their are
several accidents to prove me wrong.
As mc riders, we have to be the ones
to be more alert and aware of our surroundings.

Here in Colorado they had a news story about the fact that MC fatalities increased 20% last year (84 total). 30% of those had no MC endorsement on their license and 40% of the total listed the MC rider at fault.
A third of the riders weren't wearing a helmet (not a law in CO), the rise in fatal accidents was attributed to inexperienced riders...

Our news article said that in the last 3 years here in ohio, 60% of MC fatals were single vehicle accidents - the bike only.

I wish there were reliable stats on the number that occur late at night - my guess has always been that well over 1/2 of fatals are liquored up riders who leave the biker bar late at night and end up either against a tree trunk or in a ditch.
