Title: good news from the Isle of Man
Post by mick on 01/20/11 at 19:54:21

This year (2011) is the 100th birthday of the TT races ,allthough they began in 1907 that was on the old St James course, they switched to the big course (37 1/2 miles) after that.
the First race that was held on the main course was won by Indian M/C
they swept it with 1st 2nd and 3rd ,the british were not happy, but at least they were riden by british riders.
The only American to win the senior TT was Dave Roper in 1984.on a Matchless. This year he will do a lap of honor around the big course on a faithfull replica of the 1911 Indian ,a bike built for the IOM  TT racees.  So if you ever planned to go to the Island this year would be great time, the greatest course in the world.

Ahhhhh!,... but I couldn't...and it's not even about the money...

But,... I'd want to see Ago, Hailwood, Duke,  or Surtees...
I was just a short ferry away, back then, but too young...
I can't believe the things I missed...

But nowadays,... I'd rather watch a race, or concert, or almost any event, on TV...  I see and feel more, and all the morons are cut out...
It sustains the illusion...
I can see the Isle of Man races I cared about on DVD... thanks to you Mick.
It's history now...

'Till there's time travel...... or maybe someday,... I'll get there, and just putt around the course,... and imagine how it was...

Credit to Joey Dunlop too... almost made me interested in modern race bikes... but he's gone too...

Maybe if Rossi was there?... Naaaaa....

Have you noticed that Rossi drags a foot now while slowing for turns?....
A future in Motard?...

I'm a Motard fan now... it's a thumper thing.... ;)...

Its definitely on my to do list if I ever win the lottery. I'd go nuts trying to decide where to watch the race from. "Have you noticed that Rossi drags a foot now while slowing for turns?....
A future in Motard?..." He forgot to bleed his brakes!

I don't think he drags a foot when racing,if he did in Serowbots clip it might have been because it was just a little slowish ,they were doing a lap of honor,he is to much the pro to do that.
Mike you don't need to win the lottery to go to the Island,
book it real early stay in a inn or a little boarding house, the My dad and I stayed it served breakfast, and gave you a sack lunch to watch the race , their are lots of races just choose a different spot every day.
Most of the course is free to watch, unless you want the grandstand,or something like that.
Use an empty credit card, if you don't you won't ever go.
it's a reel fun week,or 10 days, you would never regret it.And you would never forget it.

Mick if it wasnt for the Lupus I probably would go. I know its the holy grail of motorcycle races. Riding around that track would be a religious experience for me.  But having Lupus, if I stand over a couple of hours or walk very far my feet, ankle and knees start swelling. I can go pretty good for 24 hrs but the next day I'm laid up getting over it. Whenever I play a gig with the band, the next day I cant walk. Half the people that know me dont think I'm sick, they see me only at my very best. Jennifers retiring this summer and she's wanting to go to England. She has a friend over there thats begging us to come over. If we ever do go to England, I know what week it will be.  ;)

Sounds like a plan Mike, Once on the Island you can rent a bike or car.
take a pic-nic lunch and just lay on the grass, Or my favorite way to watch is in any of the villages around the course just go to a pub and sit outside, enjoy
