Title: important topics
Post by mick on 01/02/11 at 23:49:52

I noticed on the top of the cafe section we have listed "Important topics" Like "Savage Photos" with 6 resposes last one Nov 39th last year, And another "Where are you?member locator with 3 responses.
"Daily hot tips 178 not bad ,last response Dec 1st last year.
"The Tall Table" last several responses TODAY total responses in the thousands,  Gone. the moderators have taken it down without any warning or god forbid we could vote on it like any civilized people would do. Our first amendment rights have been violated .
This is the second time I have posted this or one very much like it,
the last one was pulled by a moderator without warning.
This will be gone soon I just hope some of you will get to read it.
                       Mick

Mick -

I suggest that we start a Yahoo group for those of us who like civilized discussion of issues.

Frankly, other than our discussions, I see very little here to keep me interested.

Sure glad I didn't send anyone any money recently like I had planned to do.  I just forgot, and now I'm glad I did.

You guys are welcome at the backup forum, it is unmoderated and will remain so.

How do you get to the back up forum?

Title: Re: important topics
Post by Oldfeller on 01/03/11 at 06:32:54

Guys, if you ever exit the Cafe and go back into it you will find your Tall Table sitting right where it always has been, minus the over a year old dead stuff trimmed from the start of it.   Whole thing took 2 minutes to do and you had to tune in during that 2 minutes to "see" what you claim to be seeing (or else maybe your computer's browser is sick, who knows?)

Your browser has a buffer, and if you don't ever move from where you are that buffer stays unchanged.

Your issue is that you haven't moved anywhere since yesterday, or else you have moved and realize that you have no issue to be frothing about, but you have found a new "cause" to get excited over and something new to post about in a frantic fashion.

If you mark your calenders now, you can get excited over this all over again about the first of next year when it gets trimmed again.

You need to go ahead and register your screen name on the new forum as soon as you get there.

Oldfeller -

I went back into Cafe and didn't see Tall Table.

What do you mean by "move around"?  I'm a computer illiterate.

I signed in, Tall Table Gone.

Went to Rubber side down, came back, still gone.

Well, if we no longer have a dedicated spot for shooting the breeze on topics "unsuited" for a Motorcycle forum, I guess well just hafta post wherever.

I have friends who ride, we sit & talk, but we DO NOT Talk about Nothing BUT Motorcycles. We are friends & we talk about different things. Who is so silly as to think this place wouldbe be DEAD Dull if all we did was talk about these little 650's?

Moderate the place to Death

Justin, it isn't moderation, it is the yearly cleaning up of dead stuff.

Just so you will all know, Cafe as a whole also gets trimmed and cleaned up for dead threads monthly (Cafe has a 90 day drop off).   This has been ongoing since forever and none of you has noticed or cared about it.

And please reboot your machine -- I see the Tall Table just fine sitting right where it always has been.   I even put a hello post into it for you.

OF.  Are you SURE?  Maybe it's set so only Moderators can SEE it NOW.

No, some members have technical issues with their browers or computers, looks like.

How many of you see the Tall Table up in the sticky section and can post to it?

How many can't see it?

How many can see it but can't post to it?

Try a cold shut down (wait a minute) and reboot of your PC if you have issues not seeing or not being able to post.

I can't see it.  At all.
I tried a completely different system on a different IP.  Same thing.
I tried a different browser.  Same thing.

Fortunately, I never post to the "You need to be this Tall" message, so I don't give a hoot or a holler.

Well DURN, it is invisible except to moderators.

:o    :o    :o    :o    :o    :o

I just dialed in using Oldfeller2 and it sure enough is gone.

That is certainly unexpected and it explains why everyone is getting upset.

I am sure JohnH can fix whatever setting got tripped and I will get up with him ASAP to see if he can do that.

Sorry about that guys -- I don't know what happened and certainly can't explain the whichness of the why.   I can just try to get it fixed as quick as possible.

I can see it only when logged in.   If you hid it, you should probably unhide it.

Having a "pasture" section where controversial threads could be sent, would solve this problem.  Moving stuff to "Forum issues" would also work.  Then nobody'd get their panties in a bunch for not having a "right" to broadcast their words to thousands of computer screens.

Verslagen, what was set incorrectly (or what did you do to fix it?)

It was hidden, the icon was the whitish grey instead of yellow.  Hardly noticeable.

Now that's odd -- why didn't Sluggo's Table disappear too?   Same steps, same things done to it.

Boule,  hindsight being 20-20 I think I like Verslagen's idea that the trimmed materials from the Tall Table etc just be allowed to float down the Cafe listing to the 90 day limit and that's what I would do in the future.

I still don't understand how one thread got hidden while the other one when through the process completely unchanged.

It is a point that with bionic eyes you always see everything -- so after such changes I think I'd log in as Oldfeller2 just to make sure everything is still kosher.

Mick, it was before your time but JohnH updated the list software a while back and it required you to have your interim password sent to your email account of record.

Justin, me and several others got caught out by that as we had changed carriers so we couldn't get to our new interim passwords ..... we were forced to re-register.

You will find Justin'oGuy2 and Oldfeller2 have been list members longer than you have as we both ran them for years & years.   Then JohnH fixed the passwords issue and we were able to log in on our original names and passwords and I have done so pretty much consistently since as it is auto-memorized.

Oldfeller2 has a sterling advantage to me now -- he sees with non-bionic eyes what the normal list members sees.  He could see the issue about the disappearing list while Oldfeller simply saw it sitting there all along.

So get used to seeing him sometimes -- he may be trying to see the things a moderator's bionic eyes can't see.

I remember Oldfeller2 showing up for a short time, thought he was a clone or a doppelganger of the orignial. Now it turns out he was a second or maybe a third head (depending on which heads you count) on the orignial body. Just funning with you OF  ;D
