He looks exactly like the kind of person that you would expect to be riding a K bike. (From a 247 rider)

OMG, he looks just like a guy I work with!

The gloves add a nice touch too...   ;)

Hope I don't offend anyone with this observation ... attended a local Euro Bike Meet n' Greet back in Sept. to help a couple of Euro-Ridin' pals set-up a refreshments table ... BMW was heavily represented at the gathering and I would have to say a good many of the Beemer Riders present struck me as either slightly eccentric or somewhat "elitist" if you get my drift ... of course I could be wrong! ;)

Depends on whether they were airheads or oilheads.  Airheads tend to be eccentric (and wear grubby old clothes), and oilheads tend to be elitist  (and wear only BMW attire-kind of like HD riders).

As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and they are us."  Just like Savage riders, BMW riders come in all types.  We have bobbers, cafe racers, street rodders, and I don't know what else.  Among beamers, they don't modify their bikes as much, but there are all kinds.  I suspect some of them even ride a Savage at times.

K-75, 1987 version.  Custom seat, front fender extension, Givi tail trunk.

Daily rider, and I rode it to Morgantown N.C. by way of the Dragon and Rhinebeck NY in two separate trips.

16 years of stone-cold reliability, one year of discovering that I wasn't ready for the hobby of keeping an old bike.

And yeah, I still miss it!

Beautiful bike. I like the "brick". I belong to a BMW club and it's amazing how the early K bikes just keep going. They don't die, they just move on to new owners.

BMW, the Rolls Royce of motorcycles.
If I had to ride from Portland to the Florida Keys ,that is the bike I would choose (air head).

So mick, does that mean this is the Bentley?  :)

I have never heard anything bad about MG ,I do prefer the old styling
from the 60s. Moto Guzzi  has a fine reputation, but one of the few bikes I have never riden. so I'm not going to give it a title, but you can  ;)

No title needed my friend, they stand alone. This is my other one. You should like it because of the old school "cafe" styling. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs272.ash1/19937_100431203324964_100000742536056_9506_5075771_n.jpg
Just to add, I've seen your motorbike history. If you get down this way you could scratch Guzzi off your list. I got two and only one ass.

LOL! Most of the Beemer's at the gathering I attended were air-cooled ... actually, I think there was only one of those K-series Bikes there ... and many of their owners were togged off in BMW logo'd clothing too.

Love the Guzzi's ... I'd take one over a Beemer any day of the week ... especially one of the new V7 Classics ... those are SWEET!

In 1980 I bought a v50 moto guzzi,At the time it was between it and a 1980 650 bmw,About a year later I was parked and when I come back a 650 bmw was park right next to mine,At that time I thought the Moto guzzi was way better looking,Maybe when you have a bike the looks grows on you.The exhaust sound was the best I have ever heard,To me it had a V8 sound. What I meant on the BMWs that their owners thought they were one step above the rest of us.One thing different about that Moto Guzzi was the faster you went the smoother the engine was.

Thank you all for all the nice comments on BMWs and Moto Guzzis.

I had a V50 Monza (the cafe` racer version with more ooomph)
http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery%20%20A/MOTO%20GUZZI%20V50%20Monza%20%201.jpg
(in this very color!)

and a BMW R65 Mk1 at the same time
http://www.lanciaflavia.it/public_old_foto/img-1168165196.jpg
I was actually juggling my one insurance between the two bikes to keep costs down.

The Guzzi had a much more performing frame and brakes (3 discs and integral braking) and a more responsive engine (48bhp@8000rpm) compared to the BMW's smooth waffle (45bhp@8000rpm).
The Guzzi would cruise at 4000rpm@100Km/h (60mph) the BMW needed to rev up to 5000rpm to match the speed.
(in a word, BMW's 5th gear matched GHuzzi's 4th gear, and Guzzi still had 5th to go)
Also, the BMW had one stainless disc up front and a tiny udrum at the rear (useless!) - no matcvh for Guzzi's three discs.
The Guzzi was also a tad less thirsty, I could squeeze 300km out of that 15 liter tank before needing a fillup - compared to 250km in the BMW's 16 liter tank.
All in all, the BMW was terriffic for putt-putting (slow cruising) in Rome's city center (narrow alleys, cobblestones and riverside boulevards) whie the Guzzi was a better high-speed motorway cruiser.

Now that I have the Savage and the 1200 Beemer
http://www.bikez.com/pictures/bmw/2007/24582_0_1_2_r1200st_Image%20credits%20-%20BMW.jpg
I feel I have come full circle again, one slow boulevard cruiser (with hilariously useless brakes) and one quick and efficient motorway cruiser  8-)
PS No, I do NOT wear BMW riding apparel, it's strictly "Tucano Urbano" Made in Italy  ;)
