Itd last about a week around here, before something "Got it". My neighbor has lots of free range chickens, but she used to have a lot more. OUr rooster that we decided to let out & run lasted a bit over a week. I hope he put up a vicious fight.

Sorry jef.  I'll see what I can do about finding you a good recipe...

JOG - it belongs to my neice.  My husband's sister's family.  They now have about 20 chickens, plus about 15 of the top hats, 6 ducks, 8 geese, 2 mini horses, 1 goat, 1 cat, and 2 dogs, including my yellow lab.  And 1 "gooster" - the rooster that hangs out with the geese, stays away from the hens and other roosters.  They adopted my yellow lab last spring.  She has lots of room to run there, and I get to see her any time I want.  At my house, we had an invisible fence, so when they took her, we ran some invisible fence line there too.  But she finally broke her collar, and has learned her boundaries, so they now let her roam the property.  They lost a few chickens to a couple of coons until they got them trapped.  Now that the yellow lab is loose, she has run off a few predators lately.  But overall, it hasn't been too bad.

I grew up as a city girl, but feel like I've always been a country girl at heart.  I haven't been around farm aminals since I was a little kid, until the past few years, so I'm fascinated by it all again.  One of the horses is pregnant, but we have no idea how far along.  I'm anxious for that!

And I would wager that your rooster did put up a good fight.  Them suckas is mean!  lol  They lost a rooster that got in the back of my b-i-l's truck and rode to work with him.  Got loose on the job site, never to be seen again...

Chicken cooked anyway is my favorite meat. Has been ever since I can remember. I also used to raise them and enjoyed the fresh eggs as well as a good chicken dinner occassionally.
You take a white cake mix, use farm fresh eggs and it will turn out the best cake you've ever baked and eaten..
Was raised city gal as well, yet spent 24 years as a country gal. Now am back in the city. Miss the country and would not trade a min of it. :) kim

We were setting up traveling medical, dental and optical clinics in rural Belize.  After way too long on MRE's, we finally treated the family who owned a local restaurant.
