Ive been looking at options(CHEAP!) to hardmount saddlebags on the Ride.
Got to wondering what options/Ideas/Gimmics some of you have used to hardmount your saddlebags. I just hate the yoke under the seat.
Would love some REAL hardbags bur price is waayy more then i want to give for 'this' bike. Bigger bike for touring later maybe but not for my Bitty Baby...lol

So share your ideas guys

Someone loosened the siderails & slipped the strap( after itwas cut) under it & tightened it up.

faux leather river road slants
i cut 1/4" ply wood for the inside backs,used a paperbag to make a template.
4ea(per bag)3/8" 2 hole conduit straps 2 on the bottom(holes down) one each upper, bent around the oem bag supports, screws w/heads in the bags, washers in and out and nyla nuts..
over 10k with this set up

If you have a Taps Plastics in your town you can purchase some plastic rods and heat bend them to fit and drill holes to mount under the pinion seat. Total cost $5.

Ive got OEM supports on my ride, just hate the yoke. Been trying to figure a way to hardmount to the supports. Possibly make em (fairly) quick detach...lol
Looked at the willie and max universal hardmount. Been rolling a couple of ideas around that are cheaper but 'more' long term than quick detach.

I'm trying to think of options too. I don't like the way my bags flop out at higher speeds. There's not a good way to tie them up high on the bag, so they tend to fan outward.
I'm thinking of a semi-hardmount option, maybe using the existing holes in the backs of the bags, where they were made to disconnect from the yoke. The back is already pretty rigid:

Ooooh, thanks dinsdale, I don't think I've ever run across that website. I like the ones you are looking at, and looks like they have some decent prices on their other items too!

The mounting kit for the bags doesn't look too difficult and I bet I could make something fairly cheap, similar to that, and work with the bags I've got!

If I had non-broken bags, I would probably make a mount similar to what they have but the bags I have are missing a buckle and one Zipper is missing. They were Zip off Bags. Sewed the two halves of the zipper together so the yoke is attached to the bag again.

Originally I had a set of AMCO hard bags on mine that I made brackets for. Pics are on the site somewhere. After a stopped tip over and a crushed RH bag, I scored on a set of U21 GIVI hard bags and made plates to attach the quick detach GIVI frame to using the old brackets. The AMCOs were larger and matched the white fairing, but the GIVI's look and work OK and with a GIVI trunk all in black don't look to bad. I wanted ones hinged on the outside rather than the end so they would open under the trunk. LEOs seeing the bike for the first time usually give me the once over as it looks kinda like a Kawasaki CHP bike. I'm not into their white short sleeved shirts as a working uniform so they quickly realize I'm not one of them. Max

I stumbled across this on the Volusia/C50 site, and it looks to be fairly awesome. In fact he appears to have the same bags Piglet does! :D The mounting process would have to be modified a little, since the fender struts aren't identical on both bikes, but close enough. And the walkthrough is pretty straightforward.

Viking makes a couple sets and Saddlemen does too. Pricey, but I love the idea. I wonder how well they would mount on the S40.

I like this one at Viking, sorry the pic is little. They conform around the shock and on top of the siderail...

The pic I posted above is of bags Dimensions:17.5"x 10.5" x 6"
So these ones are 3 inches wider and 2 inches taller and 1/2 inch deeper. It looks like they use the same mounting hardware as the ones I posted but would call or write to verify.

Whew! I didn't pay attention to the size! Mine are 15 x 10.5 x 5.75, so those are quite a bit bigger! Ouch
