Title: best muffler packing material Post by seviersavage on 12/03/09 at 09:09:49 I need to quieten down a dyna muffler thats been debaffled. What material is best to pack it with, that will last the longest? There is still a plug that will hold material back. So I need to use something that won't burn I guess. It's for my wife, she wants quiet. Thanks, Sevier |

Title: Re: best muffler packing material Post by Serowbot on 12/03/09 at 10:28:51 I suppose fiberglass, but it may need to be more heat resistant than household stuff... Muffler packing costs about as much as a Sportster cast off... http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Chaparral/product_family.asp?family%5Fid=14967&gift=False&mscssid=47D5633B828A43E4A38939B2E05143D7 http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Chaparral/assets/product_images/FMFpacking.jpg |

Title: Re: best muffler packing material Post by thumperclone on 12/03/09 at 13:27:30 baffle must be removable and you "pack" wrap actually the os of the baff then use ss tye wire to hold it in place.. dont think dynas have removable baffle.. |
Title: Re: best muffler packing material Post by Ed L. on 12/03/09 at 16:53:50 I repacked the stock muffler using some fiberglass I bought from J.C. Whitney's motorcycle catalog. It came as a roll and was made for muffler repacking. If you do repack a muffler start the bike outside, not in the garage or shop. The packing releases lots of fiberglass fragments which gets all over everything. It's a lot worse than regular fiberglass house insulation, this stuff makes you really itch. |
Title: Re: best muffler packing material Post by buttgoat1 on 12/05/09 at 06:47:21 I have a screaming eagle turnout and the only baffle is a perforated piece of sheet metal diagonally through the pipe, was too lod for me. I put a baffle into the end of my headpipe, less than $10 on Ebay. and that quieted it down pretty well. JC Whitney has some packing material and baffles pretty cheap |
