Title: BIG piston
Post by aliassmith on 03/29/09 at 11:38:56

Has any one of you ever put a 100mm piston from a DR650 into a Savage engine?
I note that the wrist pins are the same diameter. It would probably require replacing the cylinder liner with one from the DR. If workable it would give about 735 cc displacement.
This needs investigation.
Hmmm, maybe a 6mm stroker crank too. I would like an LS800 engine.
THUMP THUMP THUMP!

Sounds pricey but would be willing to investigate the possibility if I could find a spare engine so I wouldn't f.u.b.a.r. mine in case I screw up.

I have a spare engine. That is why I am looking for improvements to expirement with.

When checking the measurements for the 100mm piston there was not enough room for a larger cylinder liner without boring the engine cases larger and if trying to do that then the bolt holes for the cylinder would be cut into.  That is a pretty hard problem to overcome unless you have new engine cases machined from scratch with a wider hole for the larger liner and for wider spacing for the cyl bolts, and then you would need a new cylinder machined that also had the wider bolt holes...makes everything difficult.  :P
