Title: oil filter part numbers
Post by Bear on 08/28/08 at 22:00:00

Suzuki has two different part numbers for oil filters to fit our bikes.
Earlier models 16510-37440
Later models   16510-37450
Only one EMGO available and it says replacement for 16510-37440, fits LS 650 Savage 86-88 on the box.
I have purchased both Late Model genuine Suzuki filter and EMGO.
EMGO made in Thailand, Genuine Suzuki, made in Japan.
They both look the same physically, but the EMGO has many more pleats of thinner paper, Suzuki has less pleats of thicker paper.
Some internet sellers say the EMGO will fit all LS650 and S40's
I have not purchased a K & N, but they claim theirs will fit all models.
Is there any real diference between them?
I searched "oil filter" and there have been no posts on this.
If they are the same, then why does Suzuki have two different numbers?

I dont use the Suzuki filter. Not sure the name on the box, but Ive been using NON Suzuki filters since about the 3rd oil change. When I stopped buying oil & filters from Suzuki, I started saving a good number of dollars per change.

If they are the same, then why does Suzuki have two different numbers?

I would be curious to know the year model when they call for a different part number. Have you considered calling the dealership & tfalking to someone about it? Personally, I would prefer more square inches of filter( more pleats) over thicker paper. I would like to hear the opinions of others on this.

I've seen both, don't know the years specified, but one is very slightly deeper than the other.  Either works because the spring pushes it in place.
I use a HiFlo brand that costs $3.99 at my local bike shop.  Works fine.

Bear,
I've been using the EMGO, and they work fine. I order them online (Dennis Kirk, I think.) Saves a ton over buying them in a shop. Haven't had a lick of trouble. I change oil every 1,000 miles, so the cost of OEM filters adds up quick. I have an '08, and even though the parts list only goes up to '07, they fit fine. Nothing much has changed on this bike in 20 years.

I've been using the EMGO for a couple of years in my 2k Sav. I pick them up in a little sport bike shop here in town. Their book say fits all years for the LS and I've not had a problem yet. The price just went up to $3.00 per. I suppose I should go online and check the prices with shipping.
