Title: How do you bypass neutral safety switch?
Post by YonuhAdisi on 01/29/08 at 21:07:33

I tried a search and all I got was that it was possible. Can you bypass the neutral safety switch without having to take the engine cover off? This is the second time that switch has agrivated me.

Can some one please tell me how to bypass the stupid thing?

The neutral switch connects to the mass when in neutral. If you don't want that: CUT the wire ( or disconnect the connector somewhere under the tank)
If you want the signal i.o.w. the green light "ON" find the connector and put it to "Mass" ( the frame f.i.)
Simple???

Kropatchek is right, but what is the problem?

The neutral switch is real real simple. Just provides a path to ground.  I would hazard to guess that you have a wire problem, verse the switch.  It's bathed in oil so most likely not a corrosion problem.

We await an answer to Greg's question.....

As you all know, I just got the FireLizard running again after my brand new cam chain snapped. I have already taken it out on a test ride and it worked perfectly. But yesterday as I was getting ready to ride it to work, I got a few cranks out of the engine then nothing. I had lights, horn, and turn signals and I can hear the decomp solenoid (when kickstand is up) but the starter wouldn't turn.

Last time this very thing happened it was the neutral safety switch.

Ah ha...I was agreeing with T Mack, but if you had told me that you could hear the Decomp but it still wouldn't start, then I'd have known it wasn't the neutral switch or any other safety switch...

...in case anyone's curious, you won't have any 12V on the decomp module, the ignition unit, or even the coil if those safeties have a problem.

As my motto says......:P
