Title: DECAL REMOVAL and BAFFLE DRILLING
Post by jonny chicago on 05/10/06 at 19:22:40

Just wondering if its possible to remove the decals on a 1996 savage(the savage decal, and LS650 decal)?  Seems powdered coated, is there a way around this? Can it be removed without damaging the ruining the paint job? I heard a blow dryer and razor work, is this good?

Also, can the baffles be drilled on the savage? And if so, how do you drill them?

any input is appreciated

thank you much

A good hair dryer will wrinkle the decals off. Stay away from the razorblade. Just peel the decal off with your fingernail, and use WD-40 or rubbing alchohol to remove the decal glue. Take your stock muffler off, sell it on E-bay or here and buy a Sportster muffler. You should have some money left over.

it can be done.  drain tank air out. heat with blowdryer get fingernail under clearcoat, gently heat and peal. ther will be a clear coat line feater it with new clearcoat.

the reason you remove fuel is that it won't allow the tank get  hot enough.   i did it to mine  looks much greater

I just removed my 'warning' decal on the tank yesterday.

Hair dryer and a plastic putty knife and 2 minutes later it was off.
WD-40 afterwards to clean off the glue residue.
Can't tell there was anything ever there.

About the exhaust- I'd not drill holes. If You want sound and SLIGHT improvement in the performance- HD exhaist from ebay for couple bucks and after that if You like the result You can sell the original for more money. If You drill holes in the back of the muffler it becomes tricky- how many and what size holes, and If You screw-up the sale price goes down significantly.
If You want significant improvement of the performance- check the data for different exhausts.
