Title: Suzuki gasoline recommendation
Post by sauvage on 09/01/16 at 03:24:36

From the Australian official Suzuki LS650 manual.

Fuel Octane Rating https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 91 or higher (Research method RON) [this is the method used in Australia]

If pinking or knocking occurs try higher octane or different brand.

Canada The US also uses this method known as MON
You m/c requires regular unleaded with a minimum pump octane rating of 87 [(R+M)/2 method MON] In some areas only oxygenated fuels are available.

Oxygenated fuel recommendations
Oxygenated fuels which meet the minimum octane requirement and the requirements described below may be used in your m/c without jeopardising the New Vehicle Limited Warranty

NOTE: Oxygenated fuels are fuels which contain oxygen carrying additives such as MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) or alcohol.

Gas containing MTBE
Unleaded gasoline containing MTBE may be used in your m/c if the MTBE content is not greater than 15%. This oxygenated fuel does not contain alcohol.

Gasoline/Ethanol Blends
Blends of unleaded gas and ethanol (grain alcohol) also known as GASOHOL may be used in your m/sickle if the ethanol content is not greater than 10%

Gasoline/Methanol Blends
Fuels containing 5% or less methanol (wood alcohol) may be suitable for use if they contain co-solvents and corrosion inhibitors.

DO NOT USE fuels containing more than 5% methanol under any circumstances, fuel system damage and/or performance problems are likely and will not be covered under their limited warranty.

To minimise pollution Suzuki recommend you use oxygenated fuels (ed: yeah right)

Be sure any oxygenated fuel has the recommended octane rating

If you are not satisfied with the drivability of you m/c when you are using an oxygenated fuel or if engine pinging occurs try another brand as there are differences between brands.

If all you want is the user manual IT IS FREE if you right-click on Owners Manual in the first post by Kropatchek and then "Save Link As".  That will download the .pdf to your computer.

Now if you are looking for a Clymer's detailed repair manual, that's not what this is. You'll have to buy that separately somewhere outside of this thread.

I bought my Clymer manual from Barnes & Noble online.  $28 and well worth it.  Felt pretty safe buying from them.

I bought a hard copy a few years back and paid about $18 for it ... it was used but everything was there.

Why wouldn't the mods remove this link if it does not take you to a legit seller?  If a scam link is posted, and verified someone was ripped off using it, take it off the forum....[/quote]

Doesn't it serve as a warning?
I wouldn't buy from a Romanian site anyway.

I just got scammed from suzukservicemanuals.com for $16.95 supposedly for the service manual.  Also... notice that the URL isn't "suzuki"servicemanuals... it's "suzuk"servicemanuals.  The domain suzukservicemanuals.com is registered to a company in Nassau in the Bahamas that has 22 URLs associated to the same address.  Looks pretty scammy to me...

I paid $16.95 through PayPal, received a download link in my inbox, downloaded the .zip file, and can't open it.

Just thought you'd like to know.   Mods... please pull this link!

I just downloaded the entire factory service manual from scribed as a pdf, totally legit. I don't know how to upload it to the forum, but if someone can help me with that, I'll be glad to do it. Otherwise just email me at [redacted, see edit] and I will be happy to send it to you. We finally cracked the code on obtaining the factory service manual! It's a good day!

Edit: I really should have tested this beforehand, but I'm finding out now that the file is too big for me to email. I have uploaded it on the Suzuki Savage Facebook group in the files section. Enjoy
