Title: Not supposed to thump like that... >:( Post by Zniper175 on 12/10/05 at 04:10:43 I hopped on the bike the other day after it had been idling in the driveway for about a minute and started to drive off. As soon as I began to move there was a decidedly noticeable thumping that started. Almost like something caught in the wheel. It feels like someone is hitting the frame of the bike repeatedly with a hammer. I didn't have time to mess with it that day, and I left in my car. The next day when I got on, it did the same thing. Taking it slowly up and down the street, I found that the knocking increased as the speed did, and it was less pronounced when I had the clutch engaged. WTF? I haven't the slightest clue, and Ive been to busy to work on it since then, but if any of you know what it could be, don't be shy. Thnx. |

Title: Re: Not supposed to thump like that... >:( Post by Reelthing on 12/10/05 at 07:59:55 if you do not see any rodents stuck in the wheels or rocks in the drive belt - pull the front pulley cover and see if this pulley is loose - it will act like that - knock like big time when rolling and lessen under power. |
Title: Re: Not supposed to thump like that... >: Post by organicman on 12/10/05 at 08:00:27 I had the same thing happen to me. Scared the heck out of me when it happened. It turned out to be a small stick stuck in the drive belt. |
Title: Re: Not supposed to thump like that... >: Post by Zniper175 on 12/11/05 at 14:53:13 There are indeed no rodents protruding from the spokes, so I looked and the belt and found there were a few sticks in the back sprocket. When I find out why there is no current in the electrical system, I'll take it for a ride to see if the knocking is gone. |
