Here's what's going on in my garage:

The GS750 frame I'm using is just about tall enough, but is too long. I'm undecided about whether to shorten the frame, or just move the engine back. With the engine moved back, the stock pipe will clear the downtube, avoiding an awkward exhaust bend, but the frame feels monstrously long. I'm leaning toward shortening.

Mamma's little baby loves shortenin' shortenin'...

Say Commando, thats an interesting project you have going. Are you planning to put the rest of the GS750 stuff back on or are you thinking of other mods as well? If you are using the GS parts I would leave the frame alone, but if you are considering a cafe racer, or street tracker , or whatever, I would go ahead and alter the frame.

I want a Manx, but can't manage the 20 grand to have one.

This is my attempt to have a roadracing single. I don't intend to race it, but I'd like an interesting bike for track days (I'm too old and fat to race).

I'm not putting anything on it that's not absolutely essential. any leftovers are being sold, discarded or ground off.

Commando_Al, that looks like real fun. Are u thining of low bars and BSA like tank?? shortening it will certainly make it more "flickable", but it looks like you could move the engine back a bit and have lotsa room still for the carb. Any idea what the weight distrivbution might be?

The farther back in the frame u go,better wheelies.

the closer to the front of the frame,better burnouts.

its your call,but id go for burnouts. ;D

I'm thinking I'll use clubman bars, and a Manx-style tank.

I don't know what the weight distribution will be like, but with the engine out front, the front sprocket is a mile away from the swingarm pivot. Not good.

Anyway, this is all an experiment, and for what I have invested in the frame ($50.00 for the entire GS750, most of which I made back selling leftovers on ebay) I can afford a few mistakes.

In other news, I just heard from a guy I know who's an accomplished welder (I'm not), and he's going to help me with the frame work. I'm helping him get his 71 BSA running, since he's new to bikes. Favors and friends rule!
