Gee, I've only been riding 38 years.  It's good to know you can still have "Thump" in the golden years, too.  You are an inspiration to all of us junior riders.  Thump On!

welcom papa thump: I've been ridden since '47, that makes 'bout 57 years in the saddle. it all started with a Whizzer.(a real early thumper) still ridden a thumper, an '03 Savage, but 'bout 20 or so bikes over the years. of all the bikes, the absolute worst was a '49 Indian Scout.Edison electrics,Linkert carb and a miserable copy of a Burman trans.my ridden buddy rode an AJS 500 thumper, he said I should call the Scout EMF," every morning fix" befor a ride. 73 now and looking forward to at least another 20 in the saddle,(probably just wishful thinking) keep 'em up. diesel

THANX EVERYONE FOR THE WARM WELCOME !!!!
Hay DIESEL-- was the "whizzer" a 2 stroke H-D ?
I have had a lot of rides also-- the best were all thumpers... my favorite was a BSA GOLD STAR- 500 cc
thumper.  I also had an AJS - all the brit bikes also had bad electrics- LUCAS !! - make you a deal-- 20 years from now we will go x-country on our thumpers  O.K. ?

;) ;) ;) ;) papa thump

p.s.  I will even pay for the gas !!~!!!-- i will get a loan !!

the Whizzer bycycle engine was a side valve. HD Hummer 125 was 2 stroke, bought new CZ 125,'48,that was also 2 stroke, would run plumb off from a Hummer. I'll take you up on that xcountry in '25.(yeah right) diesel

My first bike was a Honda trail 50 (not sure of the year and wish my old man kept it) then I rode a Honda express moped out at my grandfathers neck of the woods on the gravel backroads. (western illinois between savannah/hanover) for many summers thereafter. I think the bikes we all first rode are and will always be the best ones no matter what they were or how old (young) we are!!! :)
Hey Papa Thump, Welcome and give us all a good old story to learn from or some advice now and then!!! ;D

I hope when I'm 70 I'll still be riding

" I have had a lot of rides also-- the best were all thumpers... my favorite was a BSA GOLD STAR- 500 cc"

Now you are talking REAL MOTORCYLES...my all time favorite was a '56 BSA  Goldstar, set up for the 1/2 & 1' mile oval...RADICAL CAM & 1 1/2 Amal GP, not a single light on the thing, just a magneto, wire and plug.

THAT BIKE WAS AN ANIMAL...had to have at least 45-50 hp and weighed in at 300 lbs.  I   N E V E R  had any bike on the road  that could stay with it up to about 90-100.  It would top out at about 110 because of the gearing for the dirt.  The biggest regret I have is that I sold it back in the early 90's...what a mistake that was.

Did you say Whizzer?  I had fantasies about them as a kid, but never got to ride one.  Here's a photo for all the old folks here :)

Hi Dad.  You may be pushing 70, but you ain't pushing daisies.  So that's enough reason to ride.

Pink slips?  Aw man.  I suppose that I could use your bike for spare parts, so that's really inviting, but I'm much more kind hearted than that.  How about we just settle for a beer instead?

Oh no.  You aren't tricking me on this one.  I grew up reading the Sears catalog too.

By the way...it was called a "Twingle" for twin cylinder and single combustion chamber....there are whole web sites devoted to it.

one of my thumpers was a Horex "Resident"350, any one else ever ever own one? diesel

Title: Re: HI EVERYONE.... I BEAT YOU JIM !!!

Oh well, I knew about the Twingle, but admit that Diesel got me on that one about the Horex.  I did a search and found it though.

This is always so cool cause I often see old bikes at rallies and such.  There they are all beat up and broken, you try to recognize them, but you just can't.  It is so amazing how many different types of bikes were built in the early 1900s.  The Horex is a new one for me.

Gotta love the front suspension and the lacing on the wheels.

greg 650: that Horex Imperator you looked up is really a 400cc vertical twin, the Resident was a 350 thumper. owned the Resident while in Dutchland in earley 50s, was considered a side car tug. thats why both employed the "EARLES" fork suspension.(leading link) same as late 50s Bemmers. Horex was the name of the company that produced them. I've forgeten the city of manufacture like I have forgessen most of mine Dutch. you know, use it or lose it.diesel

Okay.  Actually, I couldn't seem to find a picture of a "Resident", but I wondered if it was a translation thing.  Anyway....I thought that I read that the Thumper had dual exhaust pipes?  Did it?

This was my first bike in 1967.  A Honda Sport 50 with a 4 speed manual tranny.

It had belonged to a local Shriner's group and came with a windshield that said Hejaz on it.  My Dad bought it used for $150 and I worked at a country club for most of the summer to pay him back.

Wow! these old bikes sure do evoke pleasant memories of yesteryear. My first bike was a 1965 Honda Dream (fire engine red.) It was the 150cc mini-Dream called the Benly touring model. I once rode it from Kansas to New Jersey in two one day runs with a stopover in Chicago.
By the way, Hello! This is my first post although I have been reading the threads since May when I purched my S40. First bike not a Honda and I love it! This is one great site with many great people! From all my reading I feel that I already know the regulars on a first name bases. Keep up the good work! :)

1st motor vehicle was a Honda Mini trail Z50. I cut grass all summer ' 68 or was it 69? Wanted the SL100.
You could license one when you turned 14 if it was under 5 BHP.
One kid swapped the motor from his older brothers 4-speed Honda 90 into his Minitrail. It was a good ride back in Junior High! ;D
The kid around the corner had an Sears (Italian)- 175 thumper, later rode it from Bloomington Ill. to Memphis.
The woods were full of sub-200 cc Hondas, Hodakas, Yamahas, and the occasional Rupp Roadster.

Pappa-Thump & Pappa I in Nothingham. Thank you for the warm welcome. Much appreciated.
I was out riding today and I stopped for gas. A very old man using a walker approached me and said: "What is she son?" I told him it's a Suzuki single cylinder 650cc S40 boulevard AKA Savage cruiser. He whistled in appreciation and said; "She's a beauty!" then ambled off.
Isn't that neat? I smiled all the way home. :D
