I just wanted to say thanks for the new welcome last night. I read over your replies briefly today (good thing too!) but I'm sorry, I've lost any of the personal questions you asked me. Someone asked where I live? (Farmington, MO) In response to one of your posts, I am planning to take the MSF course the weekend of June 18th. Er, how scary is that going to be? Anyway, I'm so glad you all are here!

Taking the MSF is fun...and not nearly as scary as NOT taking it!

The MSF course is interesting. I've been driving since '62, riding since '64, been thru driving safety about every other year the whole time, Air Farce and MaBell. I learned new things.

What I liked was that they took you from barely balancing to adequate in a planned step by step procedure with one-on-one attention if you need it so you never feel like you cannot manage.

I learned new things. This is unusual in itself.

I've been riding for 18 years on the street. Self taught. It shows... ::)

Keep an open mind and you should gain a lot of good info from the course. I should take the ERC, experienced rider course, but...my bike would never pass the tech inspection. Honest mister, that's not dry-rot...it's ozoned inducd tire siping... ::)

Relax, try to enjoy, and remember to forget any non-professional rider training you may have picked up over the years.

I rode for about 15 years, self-taught. Then I was off for about 14 years and decided to take the MSF as a refresher while I was looking for a bike. It was a fun course.

I've been riding for nearly 26 years self taught :)....and I haven't got a clue wot MSF is. LOL

I took the MSF course as a complete newbie -- had only ridden as a passenger before taking the course. They take it step by step and never push you -- definitely not scary. Was happily riding by the end of the course. Ended up getting a better score on the final test than my husband who has been riding for 20 years! ;D He keeps wishing I would forget that...

If you're trying to do things a certain way, it's definitely easier to learn new stuff than to unlearn old stuff.

you can not learn an old dog new tricks... ;)

problem is that some of the old dogs never learned the tricks in the first place.LOL

((Speaking of dogs, personally, I like dogs. When I was a kid we had lots of them...my dad was a hunter))

I have been riding for ... for ... give me a minute, it's been awhile... OK, I think I've got it now...39 years...that took awhile to figure since I had to take off my shoes to help count. My first riding lesson was when I bought my first bike, a Suzuki 150 (2 stroke twin) and it consisted of the selling dealer explaining...."this is the throttle, clutch, brakes, shift pattern is all 4 up, be careful and be sure to come back for your 500 mile checkup."

The rest has pretty much been "on the road, learn as you go".

Since then, having spent most of my working life in the military, I had a course most every time I reported to a new base, plus a couple of civilian courses thrown in for a drivers license qualification to get the motorcycle box checked off. All have been fun and learned something every time.

I've had all of two years self experience driving. Then I had 8 years off of it. (Well not all self experience, the rigors my dad put me through when I was 16, was fun...)

i have about 3 months experience that started with a friend of the family saying-"you've ridden a dirt bike before---same thing, now hop on and ride home"

got me hooked been ridin ever since(3 mo)
