Title: I got a savage
Post by Joel on 05/16/05 at 18:14:33

Well I bit the bullet and finally got I bike. I have always wanted a savage (I think they are an awesome package). I'm having the time of my life just driving around the neighborhood. Its an '87 with 14K miles on it, and its runs and works great. The only thing I dont like is the standard savage oil leak (I hate leaks). I can't wait till I can take trips on it.

Very nice!  Mine is black as well, with zero stickers.  Great bike.

This is a great bike. For a 1987 it looks as if the previous owner(s) took good care of it.
Have fun and drive safe.

VERY NICE!  For an 87 your bike is in great looking shape, I'd say you got an outstanding deal.
Welcome to the Savage World!

Oklahoma_Mike-

I think that rack is Suzuki supplied. At least that is what the picture of the one I ordered looked like (it hasn't arrived yet).

Nice looking bike.  Did '87 Savages have buckhorn bars?

I think the early Savages had the choice of flat or pullback.

Looking at the pictures prior to posting them I noticed an odd line across the engine.  A closer look: it's the clutch cable.  Most likely it has been replaced.  It is suppose to snake under the tank.  A lot of people are too lazy to pull the tank.  I tied a string to my old cable to use to pull the new cable in through the identical path under the tank.  Whoever did yours didn't think of that and simply left the cable outside.

Nice un' Joel.

OK,
the rack is "Stylish and functional chromed steel Rear Rack slips onto the backrest set.
Part #: 990A0-75029 ",
they show up on ebay now and then.

Thanks guys, I thought the bike would be a good starter machine (especially for $1100). Im thinking about fixing the oil leak pretty soon, as its pretty annoying  (I would like to keep the engine looking clean).

Rack was $81.95 USA currency.

Bought it from the dealership/shop that I got my bike from.

It's on, looks OK provides the function which I wanted  - to get my bag out of my kidneys and over the fender.
