Title: Alive after a long winter nap...

Just a quick/dumb question for everyone:

What's the proper startup procedure for your bike after it has been sitting all winter?

I'm thinking it's : choke all the way out, set gas to pri, fire up.

missing anything?

Yeah -- the year-round riding of the Sun Belt. ;D
(on the other hand you do get time to do major work on your bike)

Very true Paladin :D

Right now I'm hating the fact that the bike is stored in my folks garage in PA and I live in MD.  It's not a long drive, but it sucks that I don't have a place to work on the bike near me.

Why not?  What is your accommodations in Maryland?  Know anyone who can lend you garage space?  Move to a ground floor apartment and replace the sofa with the Savage?

I currently live in an appartment on the 2nd floor.  I know people with garages, but they are a bit full with cars and such.

For right now it's just something I'll have to deal with.  My future goal is a house with a 2 car garage so I have room to work on my truck and my bike!

Where ever you go be sure there is enough real estate to add on to your garage, sooner or later they get too small.

What Mr. 650 said.  I've got a 2-car garage -- it's used for pool stuff, tools and the two bikes (mine and hubby's).  Meanwhile, my car and hubby's pickup are in the driveway, and his work truck is parked on the street.

What we need to do is just convert the garage into living space, and convert the house into indoor parking.

I keep looking at the ads in the backs of magazines for steel storage buildings -- about 40 feet by 60 feet.

Unfortunately I would first need to get larger property.

I have thought about trying this to solve my "lack of garage problem"...look for run-down commercial property with a warehouse on it...buy it...make a living space in the corner (bed, bathroom, kitchen)...have the rest for the really important things like a car lift, grease rack, engine rebuild area, motorcycle dyno, bike rack/lift, a wall of tools, another wall of parts...you know, all of the really good and fun things in life.
Can I get an AMEN BROTHER?!

lordzamize - I have the exact same situation - my Savage is kept in southern PA while I live in Maryland.  My folks have a place in PA and I thought I would ride the bike in the country until I get more used to it.  I've only had the Savage since March.  The weather is getting really nice for riding!

Well guys,

tomorrow is friday, and I'll be heading up to PA to work on the bike to get it running again for this year.  I've got my tools, clymber manual, print out from www.suzukisavage.com  ;D and have prayed to the machine gods for good fortune.

Wish me luck!

I'll make sure to take pictures when I'm up there too :)

Well, a new battery did the trick!

She fired up and "roared" to life.
I forgot to take pictures though =(

Right now, I'm working on removing the wonderfully ugly stickers from the bike, and I'm having a hell of a time.  I bought a product from autozone that basically turned out to be orange flavored water, and did nothing to remove the stickers.  Can you use a hairdryer to remove the stickers?  Is there a better way?
